We are looking to hire an entry level Estimator for our office in St, Louis, MO. This role will be responsible for participating and supporting management with customer focused coordination and preparation of projects within the Industrial Group. This position will participate in competitive bid efforts including estimates beginning at the earliest stages of conceptual design through completed construction documents.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform industrial estimates and proposals including cost analysis, estimate coordination, as well as development and review of trade takeoffs and internal pricing
- Assist with cost estimates and proposals, as well as preparing/reviewing self-perform estimates, ensuring coordination with estimators and assembling final estimate for owner
- Review/analyze complex bills of materials. Assessing labor productivity and labor costs, researching vendors, and understanding manufacturing and construction costs
- Prepare productivity analysis of cost estimates, comparisons of scope, quantities, and cost data between projects
- Communicate with engineers and consultants to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements
- Negotiate with and engage in subcontract solicitation during the bidding process and maintain master subcontractor/vendor lists by trade
- Obtain, compare, and analyze competitive subcontractor and supplier bids
- Maintain Company quality standards and relationships with subcontractors and vendors
- Secure and understand property covenants. (Expectations on building types (pre-engineered metal, wood stud, concrete tilt up, etc..), property setbacks, flat work, security, etc..)
- Understand property zoning and use types.
- Estimate site utility needs and verify against availability and estimate costs to tap-on (Water, Power, Phone, Internet, Sewer, Storm Water, etc..)
- Engage with local (city/county) Building and Zoning Departments to understand permit requirements and timing expectations (Building, Site Improvements, Emissions (Air), Sewer, etc..)
- Define the customer's preferred plan for site development phasing (i.e. Phase 1 Office, Lab, Warehouse, Pilot Plant, Utility Building)
- Coordinate the PROCESS DESIGN/BUILD firm on the following requirements / impacts:
- Identify process hazards which have an impact on building design (flammable vapors, hazardous chemical storage and handling, reactive chemistry)
- Are there needs for 'Bulk Chemical Storage'?
- Make a list of chemicals expected to be on site and in what quantities / storage container types.
- Define the space requirements (footprint, heights) for raw material storage, finished good storage, processing, packaging, maintenance, etc..
- Hazard containment requirements
- Process vent management
- Hazardous waste management (process drains)
- Define how raw materials will be delivered to site
- Description of equipment needing to be installed, connected and integrated into the site.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, Associates or Certificate in Engineering, Construction Management, related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and estimating database software.
- Strong organizational skills to properly coordinate large volume activities and meet deadlines.
