Laborer Job Description:
This is a critical support position for a busy utility construction company operating throughout New Mexico. As a Laborer, daily work will involve placement of fiber optic and copper or power cables, conduits, enclosures, vaults, cabinets, poles and related equipment. Most of the work is underground/excavation projects which includes frequent shovel work.
Laborer Responsibilities/Duties:
- Assists crew leader in construction, reconstruction and maintenance work
- Assists equipment operators by spotting/swamping, hand digging and locating underground obstructions
- Drives commercial vehicles equipped to transport a variety of materials and equipment
- Complete daily paperwork in an accurate manner
- Ensures the truck has current licenses, tags, permits, and proof of insurance
- Works with specialized equipment including jackhammers, rotary drills, demo saws and other industry tools
- Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Works safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers and dump trucks
- Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards

Our Company: We have been in business in New Mexico for nearly 30 years. We perform work for a variety of communications, power, and fiber optic and data/cell providers. We have 7 offices throughout New Mexico and an office in El Paso, TX.
Hours: Operators/Laborers report to headquarters at 7-8am. Typical day could include an 8-10-hour shift Monday-Friday. On-call rotation is required.
Pay: Based on Experience. Paid Bi-weekly. Hourly employee.
Job Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in a labor-intensive environment
- 3-5 years of experience in the construction, underground or telecom industry
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, grasp, push, pull and reach on a frequent basis throughout the day.
- Must be able to lift-up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis
- Time management skills Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Required to travel out of town to work on projects of varying length approximately 10% of the time
- CDL Class A license with tanker endorsement preferred
- Valid DOT Medical Card required
