Summary:
The Bioprocess production technician performs all the tasks necessary to process raw materials into high quality crop microbial products using fermentation technology. Responsibilities include the set-up, operation, maintenance, cleaning, batch harvesting and packaging of the product using a variety of fermentation tanks, support tanks and associated equipment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Performs day-to-day activities and procedures in the production of high-quality crop microbial products
- Performs cellar activities including line building, liquid transfers, ferment tank sanitation, and control panel operations.
- Follows established processes and procedures to ensure consistency in operations, quality assurance standards and that production demand is met
- Measures and blends ingredients into process tanks
- Tracks and reports product parameters and monitors quality
- Harvests and packages product
- Responsible for upkeep of raw material and finished product inventory
- Receive, check in, and unload in-bound materials using power equipment, pallet jacks and other related equipment.
- Palletize, label and shrink wrap outbound product for shipment.
- Prepares and distributes shipping documentation in coordination with freight vendors
- Loads and unloads material onto truck trailers using forklift.
- Performs general sanitation and light maintenance on large fermentation vessels and associated equipment
- Ensures safe work environment by identifying and eliminating potential hazards and incorporating proper body mechanics into procedures
- May perform, or work with vendors or other production technicians on, maintenance procedures for production equipment
- SOP drafting and development
- Monitors wastewater disposal process according to protocols
- Data collection and analysis
Qualifications:
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations (add, multiply, subtract, etc.)
- High school diploma/BA-BS or equivalent
- Studied Microbiology, Fermentation or Bioprocessing preferred
- 2-5 years’ in a brewery/distillery liquid fermentation environment or combination of education/experience.
- Proven history of safe working practices
- Forklift operation
- Proficient computer skills – Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
Good communication and interpersonal skills. - Excellent problem solving/troubleshooting ability
- Ability to utilize the available time to organize and prioritize complete work within given deadlines
- Mind-set for process improvement, with proven track record of efficiency improvement

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position also requires the following:
- Ability to do frequent walking, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching upward/downward, crouching, and ascending/descending stairs/ramps/ ladders
- Ability to push, pull and lift over 50lbs
- Ability to enter tight and restricted areas
- Ability to climb heights (20’-30’)
Expected Hours of Work
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position is also expected to support shift, weekend and holiday schedules as required.
