The Firewall Security Specialist is responsible for reviewing and evaluating firewall rule change requests to ensure compliance with security standards and best practices. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the security posture of the organization by ensuring that firewall configurations align with security policies and protect against unauthorized access, threats, and vulnerabilities.

The Firewall Security Specialist will work in a dynamic environment, collaborating with FW Service Manager, FW SME, network engineers, system administrators, and security professionals. Occasional off-hours work may be required for emergency rule changes or incident response.

Responsibilities
- Review and analyze firewall rule change requests submitted via ServiceNow requests.
- Evaluate proposed changes for security risks, impact, and compliance with established security policies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand the business context and technical requirements behind each rule change.
- Ensure that firewall rules adhere to the principle of least privilege (i.e., granting only the necessary permissions).
- Verify that rules are properly documented, including purpose, source, destination, and service.
- Conduct periodic reviews of existing firewall rules to identify obsolete or unnecessary entries.
- Provide guidance and recommendations to improve firewall configurations and overall security posture.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and advancements in firewall technologies.
- Experience in Information Security, or a related field.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Experience in firewall administration, rule management, and security policy enforcement is a plus.
- Familiarity with firewall technologies (CheckPoint, Palo Alto) is a plus.
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCNA Security, or equivalent is a plus.
