Mechanical Engineer (Hyannis, MA)
Our client, a custom machine builder (automated solutions – Thermoforming, Storage/ Trays, sealing, etc.) is currently hiring a Mechanical Engineer (Machine Design, Solidworks). This position is a Direct Hire, working hours for this role are 4 10's, Monday through Thursday. Primary responsibilities will include designing new, and improving existing machinery and components, managing product from concept into manufacturing. (5 years of machine/equipment design experience, and 3d modeling skills required).
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Work directly with the Engineering group designing mechanical assemblies and parts which will support ongoing machine development and enhancements/cost reductions.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design equipment per customer specifications or identify changes to standard machinery to meet these specifications, at the same time meeting project budgets and schedules.
Design pneumatic and hydraulic systems and create associated schematics, bills of materials, and assembly instructions.
Responsible for the efficient implementation of your designs and the designs of the thermoforming group from design review to assembly, debug, and documentation to be used in machine manuals.
Obtain quotations for commercial components and identify alternate sources, when possible, for cost effective designs.
Develop specifications, test plans and manuals for equipment designs.
Apply mechanical engineering knowledge of machinery principles and materials, manufacturing methods and processes to ensure designs are functional, practical, economical, and satisfy customer requirements.
Produce SolidWorks® models, detail drawings using GD&T, assemblies, and parts; and prepare proper bills of material based on design.
Work with assembly personnel one on one to create/review technical documentation.
Work with Project Management to establish an organized distribution system of engineering documentation to other functional groups.
Mentor other engineers in proper machine design practices and proper use of GD&T.
Work with VP of Engineering and other senior engineers streamlining and documenting standard engineering work practices.
Assist Production and Purchasing in manufacturing and assembly methods.
Work with the Sales Department on defining special machine features.
Keep up to date on the mechanical aspects of machine safety as required by the appropriate governing bodies (OSHA, ISO…). Training will be available.

EXPERIENCE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED AND PREFERRED:
BS in Mechanical Engineering, major in Machine Design is desirable.
5-10 years equipment engineering experience preferred, to include design, part detail, documentation, costing, commercial component specification, and leading design teams.
3D solid modeling expertise (must be an expert, a "rock start" in this area).
Customer interface skills including preparing and presenting proposals, quotations and defining statements of work. Budget and costing experience.
Third party equipment specification, acceptance, and integration coordination. Experience designing standard and custom machinery.
Fluent with power and controls systems. Manufacturing or design experience with automated thermoforming, sealing and presses is highly desirable.
