What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Accountant position at Kelly?
This key Finance role is responsible for managing all aspects of sales and use tax related engagements as well as employment related tax compliance for a growing multi-state, global organization.
Company is located in Bolingbrook but role can be hybrid or remote.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop thorough understanding of SAP to external tax engine data transmission logic to successfully analyze exceptions of tax calculation occurrences.
Assist in the compliance and audit functions of the Finance Department regarding Sales and Use tax processes.
Work with other team members and multiple accounting and invoicing programs to gather, analyze and present information needed for tax compliance and audit backup.
Manage sales and use tax audits including review of the sampling methodologies, gathering data, providing tax reconciliations, and reviewing preliminary audit findings
Provide tax technical expertise and be the client liaison for all sales and use tax matters.
Renew and apply for business licenses and sales and use tax licenses, state by state management of registrations. Coordinate with accounts payable to send out remittances to states and track successful execution of said deliveries.
Review purchase data each month including fixed assets, construction-in-process, and expenses to determine if use tax should be accrued monthly
Prepare sales, use and property tax returns for manager review.
File and manage sales and use tax returns.
Prepare general ledger reconciliations regarding tax and follow up with third party tax management vendor and/or state regarding any credits or adjustments.
Assist with sales tax audits. Support the sales tax audit process by running reports in multiple accounting and invoicing programs including: SAP and Avalara, and present results to management
Conduct research on tax issues as they arise on audit and discuss research findings with management; request information and review responses from other departments, vendors and customers and discuss responses with management.
Process tax filings and payments with multiple taxing jurisdictions to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
Provide technical research related to sales and use tax issues and communicates those findings to client management and other key personnel.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of internal sales tax, use tax, property tax and business license processes.
Prepare general ledger reconciliations for assigned accruals and submit reconciliations to management for review.
Support multiple department projects and new Business channel projects regarding tax issues, as needed
Support HR department for Employment related tax registrations in multiple states

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or Economics or related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience with indirect taxes at a large multi-state corporation or public accounting firm
At least 3 - 4 years of experience with preparing or reviewing sales and use tax returns in a multistate environment utilizing sales tax preparation software
At least 5 - 7 years of experience with technical tax laws, regulations and interpreting tax laws
Exceptional communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with solid Excel skills
SAP and Avalara experience preferable
