What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pipe Foreman position at Kelvic Construction?
Kelvic Construction is in an exciting growth phase, and we are looking for a seasoned Underground Utility Pipe Foreman to join our team as we fulfill our robust current backlog and continue to add new projects.
The CREW FOREMAN must be able to direct and lead the work of a crew on job sites. Crews are comprised of 1 to 8 workers acting as a team. Employees will be assigned to the crew as needed.
The CREW FOREMAN reports to the Project Manager and the Superintendent.
The CREW FOREMAN is responsible for the installation and quality of the work of the crew, as well as Sub-Contractors, and that all production schedules are met while keeping within Kelvic’s Safety Standards and cost expectations

REQUIREMENTS
- Must have extensive knowledge of utility installation and specifications
- Experience with Trench boxes and shoring
- Be able to read plans.
- Must be able to plan and execute work in a productive manner.
- Working knowledge of stakeout and cut sheets
- Participate in meetings, inspections, and Owner’s conversations
- Complete Kelvic Paperwork for daily and weekly forms
- Crew organizational skills to handle issues with manpower, safety and job-related tasks
- Working hours are typically Mon-Thursday 7am to 5pm Friday 7am to 3pm. Occasional Saturdays as required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Quality and Productivity
- Must be able to work with and share their knowledge with new and current employees to care about and follow safe and productive installation procedures and practices
- Able to layout routing from plans to eliminate issues and or downtime during installation
- Forward thinking to reduce job costs on the job
- Organization of both manpower and equipment on site to assure quality work, done efficiently and safely
- Kelvic Equipment and Tools
- Knowledge of Kelvic policies and common sense when using and storing tools and equipment
- Ensure that all equipment is operated in a responsible and safe manner.
- Eliminate improper usage of tools and equipment and establish Crew Member accountability
- Assure proper organization and storage of all tools and equipment
- Prior to using a piece of equipment, check that it is in working order and ready to be used,(e.g. has the proper fluids; belts , tire pressure, no obvious safety hazards, etc.).
- Operate machinery and equipment as needed.
- Adhering to Kelvic Safety Policies
- Knowledge of local, state, and OSHA rules and laws
- Ensure that the job site is OSHA compliant and is a safe work environment.
- Abiding by Kelvic Safety Polices
- Crew leadership to train and protect new and current employees from safety issues
- Ability to recognize unsafe issues and correct them quickly
- Make sure that all crew members follow established safety training and that all safety rules are enforced, and that safety equipment is working order.
- Job Performance
- Make sure all Crew Members arrive at the jobsite on time and are ready to begin work at the scheduled time, driving the employees to work if necessary.
- Coordinate the equipment and materials needed on-site with the Superintendent and advise the Superintendent at least 24 hours in advance of any additional needed equipment or materials.
- Organize the work-flow and communicate what needs to be done by each crew member, monitoring their work and motivating them to produce a quality job, efficiently on a daily basis.
- Set up traffic control as needed.
- Check and confirm all drawings prior to initiating the work.
- Keep the work on pace to complete the job within the estimated time.
- Assure that all work conforms to the job’s plans, layouts and/or blueprints.
- Call the Project Manager immediately if work is stopped for any reason.
- Delegate as much lower-level activities as possible to Crew Members, such as: fueling trucks and machines, checking fluids, cleaning machines and work trailers, etc.
- Make sure that company vehicles and Crew Members are as clean and presentable as possible, to convey a positive company image
- Report all injuries to the Superintendent and safety office immediately. Call 911 if required.
- Resolve crew member issues and grievances fairly. Advise the Superintendent of unresolved issues and seek his advice and guidance.
- Provide each employee with a good, fair written performance evaluation according to the company’s schedule and make recommendations to the Project Manager regarding hiring, firing, performance warnings, etc.
- Maintain job site control over material, labor and equipment costs.
- Provide the best possible security for the Company’s tools and equipment (owned and rentals).
- At the end of the day make sure all equipment is secured.
- At the end of each workday assure that the job-site is left in a clean and safe manner.
- Communicate with the Superintendent daily to review job status, issues, problems, etc. Be prepared to provide the Superintendent with the job’s % complete.
- Maintain accurate paperwork and payroll information and get to the Superintendent in a timely manner.
- Report all requested change orders on a project to the Superintendent and the Project Manager, and make sure that no work is done until a change order has been submitted in writing by the client, and the Project Manager has given his approval to execute the change order.
- Manage/monitor the work of any Sub-Contractors on the job.
- Provide job site training to new Crew Members as needed.
- Do everything possible to assure that the job is completed to client specifications, on-schedule, and on-target to meet cost/profit goals.
- Perform any other duty or assignment as may be assigned from time to time by the Superintendent.

Kelvic Construction is offering a $1000 retention bonus to the selected candidate. Payable upon completion of 90 day probationary period.
