Materials Analysis - Latrobe, PA
Requirements
Required to specialize in a limited number of Technician processes as a principal responsibility in order to maintain the high quality and expertise levels expected from the laboratory. Extensive flexibility required with Technician tasks to maximize the sample throughput of the laboratory and to provide reliable test results.
Job Description - Tasks:
Prepare metallographic samples and conduct analytical tests, such as: macro and micro hardness testing, surface grinding, and use of micrometers, adhesion testing and coating thickness measurements by Calotte Scar technique and cross section, microstructure evaluation of carbide, steel, ceramics, composites and other wear-resistant materials. Perform basic routine processes that require close interaction with higher level technicians, engineers and Supervisor. Make analytical test decisions. Standardize, calibrate and perform basic preventive maintenance and repair on lab instruments. Strictly adhere to standard procedures developed at the Technology Center. Provide training to colleagues at local and remote locations.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a technical degree (science, math, computer) or high school diploma and 2-3 years practical experience in a technical function. Basic PC skills in spreadsheets, word processing, statistical and graphics programs. Attention to detail and excellent verbal communications and technical writing skills are required. Lab experience, data reporting and implementation of standardized procedures is preferred.
