Fiber Technician Requirements:
- Must have prior experience working for a telecommunications company or sub contractor as a FTTH technician installing highspeed internet, phone, and video.
- You must provide a work vehicle capable of carrying a 28’ fiberglass telco ladder. You are reimbursed for use of your vehicle. Truck, Large SUV, or Van acceptable.
- You must already have all required documentation for working in the US. No visa sponsorship or relocation available.
Fiber Technician Overview: We are seeking a talented Fiber Telecommunications Technician specializing in Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) installation, repair, phone, and TV services to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic telecommunications systems, ensuring seamless connectivity and exceptional service quality to our customers. Your expertise in FTTH technologies and ability to handle phone and TV services will play a crucial role in the success of our telecommunications operations.
Fiber Technician Responsibilities:
- Install, terminate, and test fiber optic cables for FTTH deployments, ensuring proper connections, splicing, and fiber integrity.
- Perform on-site surveys to assess the feasibility of FTTH installations and recommend suitable solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to fiber optic telecommunications systems, including connectivity problems, signal quality, and service disruptions.
- Configure and install fiber optic equipment, including optical network terminals (ONTs), fiber splitters, and media converters.
- Conduct fiber optic fusion splicing, connector termination, and fiber optic cable management as required.
- Collaborate with customers, technicians, and engineers to address customer needs and ensure the successful implementation of FTTH installations and services.
- Provide technical support to customers, including diagnosing and resolving issues related to phone and TV services over fiber optic networks.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities, including documenting changes made to fiber optic systems.
- Conduct tests and measurements using specialized equipment to ensure compliance with industry standards and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to fiber optic telecommunications systems.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certifications or vocational training in telecommunications or related fields is preferred.
- Proven experience working with fiber optic telecommunications systems, specifically FTTH installations, repair, phone, and TV services.
- Strong knowledge of fiber optic cable installation, splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
- Proficient in using fiber optic testing and measurement tools, such as optical power meters, OTDRs (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers), and fiber optic light sources.
- Familiarity with telecom equipment and technologies, including ONTs, routers, switches, and media converters.
- Solid understanding of fiber optic networking principles, protocols, and standards, such as GPON, EPON, Ethernet, and IPTV.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve fiber optic connectivity, performance, and service-related issues.
- Good communication skills to effectively interact with customers, colleagues, and vendors.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to work in various environments, including climbing poles, using ladders, and lifting equipment.
