About this role:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, Kennedy-Donovan Center, Inc. (KDC) has a position open for a Controller. The Controller designs and maintains accounting information systems, develops and monitors budgets for internal and external purposes, manages annual independent audit and other compliance audits, and supervises the Accounting, Payables and Payroll Finance Department Team members.
We are offering a $2k sign-on bonus for this role. This position is full time, 40 hours, exempt.
In this role, you will get to:
- Design and maintain accounting information systems to produce timely and relevant financial data for internal decision-making purpose and for meeting funding agency, regulatory and other external requirements.
- Manage the overall accounting and finance functions of the organization by establishing and ensuring compliance of accounting policies and procedures related to revenues, expenses, accounts payable, financial reporting, payroll as well as related operational procedures.
- Manage annual independent audit and other compliance audits to ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations as well as accounting standards set forth by FASB, DPS and funding agencies.
- Monitor budgets for internal use and for proposals, service contracts and amendments for funding agencies.
- Perform financial analysis, conducts non-financial compliance audits, develops pro-formas budgets and creates projections to aid in programmatic and financial decision-making.
- Interview, hire, train, supervise and evaluate applicable Finance Department team members to assure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks consistent with Kennedy Donovan Center’s policies and applicable laws.
- Oversee generation of annual MA Uniform Financial Statements (UFR).
- Analyze budget versus actual reports and communicate material findings to applicable program leaders and Senior Management.
- Develop income/expense allocations and standard journal entries
- Oversee generation of annual 1099-MISC forms for independent contractors and respond to corresponding tax issues.
- Make intra and inter-account bank transfers when necessary.
- Perform other professional duties as requested.
We are looking for people who:
- Master’s degree and/or CPA required
- Director level or similar previous non-profit experience
- Strong computer skills including accounting, spreadsheet and word processing software; excellent supervisory, written and verbal communication, interpersonal, technological and organizational skills.
- Significant experience with accounting information system design, budgeting and audit management preferred
- Blackbaud Financial Edge Accounting Software experience is desirable, but not necessary.
The physical requirements for this role are:

- High level computer and Micro Soft applications
