Qualifications Required:
1. Valid Washington State teacher’s certificate appropriate for elementary

2. Endorsement in Music

3. Satisfactory evaluations


Qualifications Preferred:
1. Successful experience teaching general elementary music documented by positive evaluations.
2. Basic understanding of the Washington State Common Core Music Standards.
3. Understanding of and willingness to administer the Music CBPAs.
4. Experience with and/or training with and willingness to include special needs children in the regular education music classes.
5. Experience in working successfully with at risk students.
6. Ability and willingness to rehearse and direct grade level choirs such as 4th and 5th grade Choruses.

7. Ability and willingness to teach Marimba and Orchestra before and after school.

8. Ability and willingness to plan, teach, guide and direct daytime and evening musical performances including Veterans Day, Holiday Celebrations, 5th Grade Choral Festival, and Grade Level Performances.
9. Ability and willingness to share the music room and its contents with other staff members.
10. Ability and willingness to share responsibility for planning and coordinating music curriculum so instruction will be sequential and developmentally appropriate for each grade level.
11. Ability and willingness to use technology to enhance music instruction.
12. Ability and willingness to work as a team with other staff members to best meet the educational needs of the students.
13. Ability and willingness to set up equipment for music and non musical programs and assemblies.
14. Training in ORFF pedagogy and/or willingness to attend workshops.
15. Evidence of successful classroom management.
16. Evidence of successful communication with staff, students, and parents.
17. Demonstrated ability to work in a PLC.
18. Punctual and consistent attendance.

Job Description:
1. Collaboratively develop and teach K-5 music curriculum that integrates state music EALRS, supports classroom curriculum, and emphasizes reading.
2. Teach music skills to classes of special needs students (lifeskills and Developmental Therapy.)
3. Teach regular grade level classes which include special needs students.
4. Instruct students in proper use and care of instruments and other music room materials.
5. Organize and direct musical “special interest” groups (chorus and/or instrumental) during non-instructional time.
6. Establish and maintain standards of student/classroom behavior to provide a supportive and productive learning environment.
7. Demonstrate classroom management skills that allow for a safe and productive learning environment.
8. Collaboratively prepare and present grade level programs/concerts, including evening performances.
9. Collaboratively prepare and support students for the district wide choral festival, including the evening performance.
10. Work with staff in supporting and enhancing classroom activities.
11. Work cooperatively with other staff to maintain a positive, disciplined, educationally sound learning environment for students.
12. Communicate with parents and staff through conferences and other means to discuss student behavior, progress, etc.
13. Provide support reading instruction up to one hour per day, if needed.
14. Attend and participate in building staff and district elementary music teacher meetings.
15. Other duties as assigned.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.


Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F . The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.


**COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**


Application Procedure: In-District staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. In-building/In-district staff will have eight school days, or eight working days during the summer to apply for a vacant position through the online application system. The employee may choose but will not be required to meet with the building administrator to understand the building practices, procedures and initiatives specific to the position to which they are applying. After eight days if an in-building employee is qualified for the position, the principal will offer the employee the position. In the case that more than one in-building employee is interested in a position, the position will be offered to the qualified and senior employee. If a position is not filled in-building after the eight day period, the position will be offered to the qualified, most senior in-district applicant, if any. Teachers with a summative evaluation score of 1 or 2 are not eligible to transfer unless agreed upon by the District and Association.


Out-of-District applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to completion of a satisfactory criminal background check.
