Hours: 8 Hours per Day, 260 Days per Year


JOB DESCRIPTION


The person in this position will maintain and efficiently manage the school location to optimize its usefulness and cleanliness, while handling minor repairs and addressing safety hazards not requiring a skilled tradesman. Other duties will be performed as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED


  • Demonstrated skill and knowledge expected of a Building custodian in the responsibilities listed under the headings “Essential Duties and Responsibilities”, “General Requirements”, Physical Demands”, and “Work Environment”.
  • Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
  • Evidence of ability to operate computers in order to enter time card information and work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS).
  • Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing as well as follow directions/ instructions. Must be able to perform basic math calculations.
  • Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED


  • General custodial skills; basic operational knowledge of and ability to operate custodial equipment and the heating/cooling systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Work cooperatively with students, staff and administrators to accomplish all tasks in a professional manner.
  • Communicate with lead custodian and principal regarding building needs and activity needs.
  • Fill in for lead/day custodian in his/her absence.
  • Perform general labor as needed, such as cleaning, moving equipment, desks, tables, etc.
  • Lower flags and secure building in afternoon/evening.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the facility and report needed repairs on work order forms.
  • Assist with setting up and taking down for special programs and activities.
  • Make minor repairs as needed.
  • Operate custodial equipment and the heating/cooling systems.
  • Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned by supervisor pertaining to job classification.
  • Clean and maintain sanitary conditions of floor, counters, equipment, etc.
  • Use power equipment and hand tools such as mower, weed eater, shovel, broom, mop, squeegee, burnisher, and vacuum required for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets and furniture.
  • Keep an orderly inventory of custodial supplies; report needs to the central warehouse using computerized system.
  • Clean and sanitize toilets, shower rooms and fixtures. Replace light bulbs, tissue and other restroom supplies.
  • Empty wastebaskets and trash containers.
  • Dust furniture and light fixtures. Sweep, mop and burnish floors.
  • Wash windows.
  • Keep sidewalks, courtyards, and facility free of litter in building area; help keep outer campus clean.
  • Help remove snow and ice from walkways where needed.
  • Clean and replace HVAC filters as assigned on the filter schedule.
  • Work in a crew on non-student days to help accomplish specific tasks.
  • Assists mentoring new team members on skills necessary to successfully perform duties required of them.
  • Overtime may be required for after school / non-school activities or functions.
  • Perform Integrated Pest Management.
  • Accomplish all tasks in a professional manner. Model appropriate and healthy adult behavior. Interact with people and speak in a manner that reflects community standards of politeness, civility and human sensitivity.
  • Duties and beat assignments subject to change as needed/required by the District’s needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor related to job classification.
