Premier non-profit is seeking an Adapted Physical Education/Health Teacher for one of its vastly growing programs. Pathways Strategic Teaching Center is a year-round comprehensive education and treatment program, servicing children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other related disorders. Founded in 1988 through a collaborative effort between the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center and local parents of children with autism, Pathways is committed to utilizing scientifically validated teaching methodologies in improving the lives of individuals with ASD and their families. Pathways education and treatment strategies are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Individually tailored curricula address speech and language, pre-academic and academic skills, daily living and self-care skills, play and social skills, vocational skills, and assessment & treatment of challenging behavior.
As the Adapted Physical Education/ Health Teacher, you will be responsible for:
- Establishing learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development
- Preparing, administering, and correcting evaluations and assessments, and recording results
- Evaluating student progress using appropriate assessment techniques
- Participating in the IEP process for students either being evaluated for or already receiving services
- Maintaining order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Creating a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
- Monitoring appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials, and facilities
- Attending and actively participating in staff/faculty meetings and providing input regarding the planning of instruction goals, objectives, and methods
- Improving skill and knowledge base in current trends, research and methodology in instructional techniques, technology, multi-cultural content, problem solving and interdisciplinary connections
- Performing other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Bachelors degree preferred
- All Grades Adapted Physical Education Certificate (Ride Certification) required
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience required
- Experience working with children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities utilizing applied behavior analytic teaching methods
- Experience developing individual child curriculum preferred, as well as experience in training others to implement behavior analytic teaching practices and behavioral/educational measurement
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and work with students in such a way as involves physical contact, particularly when there is a child safety need
- Ability to communicate effectively- verbally & written
- Must have a valid driver's license, safe driving record, automobile insurance, and access to a vehicle to be used as directed and when needed for transport
- Must have and maintain pediatric CPR certification
- BCI, Fingerprinting, and immunizations are required
- Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in United States required
