    Job Title: STEM Consultant
    215 days per year

    The work of the STEM Consultant will be to advocate for and support high quality curriculum, assessment, and instruction for all students via coaching, consulting, and facilitating individuals/groups. Through this work, the consultant will provide leadership in all areas of K-12 science, technology, mathematics, engineering and computer science; including program planning and visioning, progress monitoring, and evaluating impact. The STEM Consultant will be able to identify evidence-based practice for improving instruction and develop these skills with educators. In order to provide continual support, the consultant will facilitate these teacher groups continually by analyzing lesson plans, student work, and reflecting to continue to improve teaching and learning throughout the course of the school year.

    Essential Job Qualifications Required:
    • Valid Michigan teacher certification
    • Minimum of five years of experience teaching K-12 STEM related field (math, science, engineering, technology) – Preferred
    • Master’s degree– Preferred
    • Familiarity with K-12 math, science, and literacy state standards and practices including computer science (MIK12CS) and technology (MITECS)
    • Experience with project, problem and place-based learning and design thinking
    • Experience facilitating adult learning
    • Able to demonstrate a personal focus and passion for teaching and learning, cross-curricular integration, student outcomes and leadership
    • Able to coach individuals in curriculum, assessment, and instruction
    • Able to support Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 teaching and learning
    • Able to use observational data and formative assessment processes to guide professional learning
    • Communication, organizational and networking skills required
    • Values equity, growth mindset, collaborative problem solving, relationships
    Key Duties and Responsibilities:
    • The consultant will work collaboratively with Kent ISD science, math, and technology consultants and local, regional, state and national stakeholders to support teaching and learning of STEM.
    • The consultant will identify and utilize data to inform decision making, ensuring high quality teaching and learning at the local, regional, state and national level.
    • The consultant will support progress monitoring and evaluation of implementation fidelity of selected evidence-based instructional strategies, practice, and curriculum.
    • The consultant will continue to develop deep content and pedagogical knowledge in the evidence-based, learner-centered approach to instruction.
    • The consultant will utilize project, place, and problem-based learning strategies while embedding design thinking processes to improve learning for students and staff.
    • The consultant will provide coaching to support continuous improvement of classroom, school, and district practices.
    • The consultant will facilitate professional development, working with educators to refine their knowledge and skills. Professional development could include, but not be limited to observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teacher groups in looking at student work, developing lesson plans with teacher groups based on student needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teacher groups, etc.
    • The consultant will communicate clearly and concisely with all stakeholders, both orally and in writing.

    Salary: Professional salary schedule, Grade 7 for 215 days (steps 1-5 posted below; increased placement on salary schedule negotiable based on education and experience)
