Shift/Working Hours: 4pm-4:30am, every other weekend
The starting wage for this role is $30.00 per hour and is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications. This position may also be eligible for a shift differential and/or overtime. What you'll do:
Operates, monitors and controls all boiler and utility equipment. Includes 3-600 hp boilers, water softeners for boilers and plant operation, cooling tower, 300 Ton refrigeration unit, 2 sterile air compressors, 2 ammonia compressors and 4 instrument air compressors. Must collect and analyze various water streams which requires operating start/stop switches, opening and closing various sized valves from small to very large, sometimes requiring the use of large pipe wrenches and applying force, and reading pressure and temperature gauges. Adding salt to water softeners every shift, requires lifting 50 lb. bags of salt from pallets to shoulder height and dumping into softener tank.
· Performs general plant maintenance, grounds maintenance and janitorial duties as necessary.
· Receives calls from Custom Alarm on Boiler Cellphone for various alarms.
Key responsibilities
1. Operates all equipment related to the wastewater handling system. Sewer monitoring equipment includes flow meter, water sampler and refrigerator, and pH controllers. Must read meters and take daily pH readings and operate start/stop switches.
Operates/Monitors fire system panels, receives calls from Custom Alarm regarding Smoke Alarms / Door Alarms via boiler cell phone.
Operates plant water well, bulk acid and bulk caustic pumps. Must operate push button start/stop switches, read meters, open and close very large valves requiring the exertion of force.
Performs water chemical testing for the boilers, cooling tower and glycol streams. Takes samples of all water streams, performs chemical tests to determine treatment requirements and levels. Reads meters and level gauges everyday which requires walking tour of entire building and grounds.
Repairs plant equipment as needed. Includes: climbing stairs, portable ladders, vertical ladders; carrying up to 50 pounds; applying sufficient force to tighten large nuts and bolts; work outside for periods of time in temperatures varying from -0°F to 100°F; climb steps to top of dryer (eight stories up) carrying repair equipment.
Operates forklift and aerial lifts.
Monitors boiler chemicals and other water conditioning chemicals.
Monitors energy consumption and plant energy inventories.
Qualifications and skills
What you'll need to be successful and safe:
1. High school diploma or GED, plus 1-2 years of advances education in the area of building, utilities or general maintenance.
2. Must hold and retain a State of Minnesota Boiler license.
3. 1-2 years working in an industrial maintenance/boiler position.
4. Prior experience in a food manufacturing facility preferred.
5. Mechanical Repair, General Welding, some Electrical Troubleshooting, ability to use hand tools, hand-held power tools, a drill press, and basic computer skills including the ability to access email and the internet.
6. Must have the ability to work alone and in close cooperation with production personnel. Capable of working through complex problems alone or with others to provide logical solutions
