The Key Container Company is located in South Gate close to the heart of Los Angeles in a plant built in the 1920’s as a corrugated and solid fiber box manufacturer making it one of the oldest corrugated box facilities in the world.

Key Responsibilities
· Regularly and consistently manages manufacturing activities of a union production team to ensure that safety, production and quality specifications are consistently met.
· Devises and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
· Devises and implements changes in processes and working conditions to increase plant efficiency and productivity.
· Maintains quality, efficiencies, and production levels set by Executive Management. Communicates to ensure adherence to these standards by all team employees under direct management.
· Directs and trains employees in the safe and productive operation of machinery and equipment. Enforces use of PPE.
· Regularly inspects machines and equipment to ensure safe, specific operational performance and optimum utilization. Responsible for Lock-Out/Tag Out of equipment taken out of service for maintenance.
· Drafts Work Orders for submission to Maintenance Supervisor requesting preventive maintenance and/or repair/modification. Meets weekly with Maintenance Supervisor to review/close out/revise equipment work orders.
· Inspects all work in progress and finished goods produced by the team.
· Regularly and consistently reviews production errors and complaints. Directs employees in daily corrective and/or preventive action as needed, documents discussions for submission to Personnel Director/employment file.
· Engages in regular interactions with direct report employees, documenting any and all performance improvements discussed with each employee. These improvements include but are not limited to: Safety, Quality and/or Productivity. Provide detailed and dated documentation to Personnel Department for inclusion in employment files.
· Plays active and regular role in/on Safety Committee including partnering with Safety Coordinator in investigating incidents/near misses, documenting and remedying same. Perform behavioral safety audits weekly to encourage safe behavior by all employees. Responsible for documenting unsafe behavior/practices and engaging in corrective action with employees regarding violations of safe behavior protocol.
· Keeps Plant Manager apprised of problems or situations that may affect the performance of the Department.
· Participates in Union grievance procedures as requested/required; provides input to Union contract negotiations.
Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as requested or required by Executive Management
Supervisory Responsibilities/Decision Making
The Plant Supervisor consistently and regularly manages, directs and develops multiple union employees. Management objectives include, but are not limited to: providing direction through training and correction, teaching procedures and machine troubleshooting; motivating employees to adhere to all safety and quality standards in production of quality corrugated materials. The position regularly and consistently engages in making independent decisions that impact the production team, recruiting and hiring, employment-related activities, i.e., corrective action, demotion, suspensions and recommendations for termination, training content, delivery and overall safety compliance.
Minimum Qualifications and Educational Requirements
High School Diploma
5 years’ experience working in Corrugated Industry
Ability to work any shift and overtime as needed
Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16th of an inch/Ability to read and understand work instructions
Preferred Skillset
Excellent verbal and written skills needed for training, employee relations, verbal and written corrective action and termination documentation. Confidence and credibility as a Trainer, comfortable with public speaking and motivating team members through consistent high-energy and diligence. 10 years’ experience working in Corrugated Industry at least 5 years’ experience in supervising a production crew. Comfortable with use of new computer programs.
