POSITION TITLE : Upward Bound Summer 24Resident Tutor (temporary)
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS :
Reports to : MCUB Director, MCUBAssociate Director
Summary of Position :
The Mills College at Northeastern University Upward Bound (MCUB)TRIO Programis funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
MCUBis designed to enhance the academic skills of low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students in the Oakland and West Contra Costa Unified School District with the goal that participants will pursue post-secondary education.
MCUB will also provide courses and workshops exploring various topics :
Summer Enrichment Program Description
The MCUB Program offers a six-week summer academic enrichment program for students entering grades 9th-12th. The MCUB summer program will be conducted on theMills at Northeastern Campus.
Staff orientations will likely take place July 2nd 3pm- 4pm . Instruction for the MCUB Summer Program is scheduled to begin Monday, June 17thand continues through Thursday, July25th.
Daily Schedule
Week 1 Residential Stay
Sunday 7 pm to 9 pm
Monday 7 pm to 9 pm
Tuesday 7 pm to 9 pm
Wednesday - 7 pm to 9 pm
Thursday - 7 pm to 9 pm
Week 2 - Residential Stay
Sunday 7 pm to 9 pm
Monday 7 pm to 9 pm
Tuesday 7 pm to 9 pm
Wednesday - 7 pm to 9 pm
Thursday - 7 pm to 9 pm
The primary responsibilities for Resident Tutors include :
Tutor students in subject named above
Providing supervision of all residential students.
Providing academic assistance during study hall.
Following and enforcing the rules and regulations of the College and the Upward Bound Program at all times.
Supervising use of all program equipment and immediately reporting any misused, missing or damaged property to the Director / Associate Director.
Assisting in enhancing the living environment and promoting an educational atmosphere in the residence hall.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Directors.
Thorough knowledge of subject matter and skill acquisition in subject being taught.
Knowledgeable of California Content standards for subject area (academic courses)
Knowledge of child / adolescent development and different learning styles
Skills and knowledge to effectively work with students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to understand and enforce all MCUB Program policies.
Education and Training :
Minimum of 2 years of post-secondary education completed
Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands :
Requires passing fingerprinting and a background check.
Requires certificate of completion of Mandated Reporting Training within the last year.
