Kids Unlimited is actively looking for a talented Screen Printer with a desire to mentor kids!

This unique job allows for you to work on production prints for clients and help mentor kids with a desire to screen print as an artistic and commercial outlet.

$16.64 - $20.46 per hour DOE

Full Time with full benefits package

As a Screen Printer, you will be responsible for the process of screen printing garments, brainstorming creative ideas and helping build a growing organization. You will be working under our print director; doing the entire printing process from the film to the screen, setting up and operating the press to produce the final printed articles. Requirements are attention to detail, a critical eye for print quality, artistry, the ability to handle constructive criticism, and having a desire to grow in your craft. You will also check job inventory, dry and fold the final printed articles before they are packaged and sent to the customer. This includes keeping the print area cleaned and organized. We also have an embroidery machine and a vinyl cutter/heat presses that we will help train you on. You should be a motivated self starter with an artistic eye. Although experience is preferred, we will help train the right candidate.

As a Screen Printing Mentor you will help support our screen printing teacher by coaching and mentoring a screen printing class to 7th grade Kids Unlimited students a few hours a week. This means you will be acting as a teacher's aide for the screen printing class during this time. You will be expected to enthusiastically take on the responsibilities and expectations this role brings as well.

Requirements:

• Several years' experience working as a manual Screen Printer
• Creative and artistic skills
• Attention to detail and quality control
• Knowledge of how to print on various materials: when to use blockers, low-cure, under bases, cure temps
• Knowledge of screen meshes, when to use what
• Good grasp of color theory, mixing colors, and fashion trends
• Experience on a manual press: knowing squeegee angles, pressure, durometer etc...
• Experience on an automatic press a plus: set up, using an interface
• Excellent hand-eye coordination
• Ability to work with ink and chemicals every day
• Operate large machinery
• Work alone for long shifts
• Able to stand for long hours
• Motivated and excited for improvement and collaboration
• Ability to articulate the screen printing process to kids
• Patience & Empathy towards kids learning the trade
• Communicate clearly with the art department
• Clearly understand and follow verbal and written instructions
• Examining work orders to determine estimated printing times, ink, and material quantities needed
• Selecting screen size, degreasing agents and emulsion coatings
• Daily housekeeping of the Screen Printing Department
• Calibrating printer before batch is printed
• Running prints and performing quality checks throughout the printing process
• Troubleshooting problems as they arise
• Drying, folding, and packing completed articles after the run
• Must be motivated and proactive with strong attention to detail
• Hard working and dependable
• Unpacking and repacking of printed product
• Quality control of printed items
• Processes designated screens with reclaiming solution to remove stencil emulsion or film, applies haze remover to remove ghosting and degreases new or reclaimed screens
• Responsible of screen maintenance which includes the following: de-hazing, cleaning emulsion, cleaning ink, degreasing and emulsion coating, taping and removing tape
• Utilizes personnel protective devices and other safety equipment as required for personnel safety
• Maintains a clean and safe work area

Helpful:

• Embroidery or vinyl experience a plus
• Bi-lingual
• Knowledge of vector artwork separations, halftones

Basic skills:

• Proven analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
• General computer experience
• Empathetic towards kids
• Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Basic math
• Must be detail oriented with an eye for detail and able to work in a highly productive environment in a safe manner
• High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Prior experience with printing
• The ability to communicate and understand English in written and verbal form
• The ability to occasionally lift and move 35 - 40 pounds
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance
