Café Front of House Team Member / Barista

Kieran’s Kitchen is currently hiring a Front of house team member with barista & customer service experience who wants to be part of the unique experience offered here at FOOD BUILDING.

FOOD BUILDING is an urban food production hub striving to create delicious, handcrafted food and beverages through intentional sourcing, sustainable practices, and thoughtful care. It is home to artisan wholesale food production brands including Red Table Meat Co., Alemar Cheese Co., Baker's Field Flour & Bread and 3LECHE. Kieran's Kitchen is the building's café, market, and deli, and runs the events business at FOOD BUILDING. Kieran's Kitchen offers a multitude of different experiences for the customer, and our employees are well versed in all products offered from ready-to-eat sandwiches, pastas, and salads to our retail and grocery items.

Kieran's Kitchen can be thought of as the showcase for all of the amazing products made at FOOD BUILDING, as well as those of likeminded makers. We offer a menu of prepared food as well as refrigerated and frozen provisions in our market, and all of these items are made using FOOD BUILDING ingredients.

In addition to our market and café services we are also beginning to grow our events programming. We host an array of events spanning from board meetings and bridal showers to large weddings and receptions. Our front of house team members are given first right of refusal for staffing at all of our in house events.

Candidates must have scheduling flexibility and weekend availability. Evening availability is a plus. Evening shifts begin between 11am and 1 pm and the café closes at 6:30pm. Barista shifts start at 7am and end between 1 and 3 pm. The current café hours are 8am to 6:30pm Tuesday-Saturday and 8am-4pm on Sunday. A typical shift is 4-6 hours in length.

We are looking for candidates who are enthusiastic, outgoing, and sales-oriented. Candidates should also have a passion for sustainable, local food, and be able to translate this passion into a conversation with the customer.

Required

• The ability to learn and communicate the ins & outs of our FOOD BUILDING brands (Red Table Meat Co., Alemar Cheese Co., Baker’s Field Flour & Bread and 3LECHE), including our brands’ stories, range of products, and production methods
• An approachable, affable, and charismatic personality that will encourage customers to engage with our brands
• Prior barista/hospitality experience a plus.
• Cash handling experience.
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and be on your feet for long stretches of time.

Essential Functions:

• Engages with guests at all possible opportunities to grow knowledge of FOOD BUILDING brands and continue to move the FOOD BUILDING forward.
• Is respectful and kind to all coworkers, makers and guests, no matter their race, religion, sexual orientation or appearance.

Core Responsibilities

• Completes all opening and closing duties.
• Greets customers as they enter.
• Provides customers with menus, answers questions regarding ingredients and FOOD BUILDING’s brands.
• Takes orders while paying close attention to details.
• Prepares beverages following recipes.
• Serves beverages and prepared food.
• Prepares online pick-up orders, ensuring guests receive their complete order.
• Receives and processes payments (cash and cred cards).
• Buses tables and maintains cleanliness of the restaurant, bathrooms and bar area.
• Maintains stock of clean dishes and paper goods.
• Package and label necessary items for retail.
• Checks that brewing equipment operates properly and reports any maintenance needs.
• Assists with prep dishes.
• Manages inventory, both for display and online.
• Ensure shelves are stocked properly.
• Complies with health and safety regulations.
• Communicates customer feedback to managers and recommends menu items.

Compensation & Benefits

• $13.50/hour tips
• Sick leave in compliance with the State of MN’s Sick & Safe Time laws, accumulated at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year.
