Position Details:
This position is expected to interact with students and patrons in a patient and polite manner in an effort to create a healthy library environment conducive to learning.
Responsibilities:
- Unlock doors and prepare library for patrons
- Check book drops
- Process and shelve newspapers
- Assist student and patrons with computers, printers/copiers, scanners and other library equipment
- Aid students with specific types of software and internet-based resources (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, library database access, library print software, etc.).
- Aid students with common library procedures, such as study room reservation and finding books
- Sell convenience-based college school supplies (i.e.: pencils, pens, scantrons, flash drives, ear buds, etc.)
- Reconcile cash drawer contents at beginning and end of shift
- Handle money in a responsible and professional manner
- Receive payments for over-due fines and fees and documents appropriately
- Help to maintain order in the library
- Straighten furniture
- Record incidents and report to full-time staff members
- Participate in special projects
- Follow and adhere to general Kilgore College and Watson Library policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED
- Ability to prioritize tasks and organize work efficiently
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Punctual, dedicated, friendly, and willing to practice radical hospitality on a daily basis
- Great attention to detail
- Be able to lift up to 25 lbs., sit for long periods, read & work from computer 85% of the time
- Computer skills to include proficiency in work processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and database applications
- Able to work well with little supervision and relate well to a diverse student and faculty population
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Able to work in a typical office environment
- Able to handle occasional high levels of stress
- Organized, confidentiality-minded, expedient, tactful, and even-tempered
- Excellent customer service skills are required
Salary Range & Fringe Benefits:
- The rate of pay for this position is $10 per hour for 10 hours per week. Working hours are 2-6PM Sunday and 4-8PM Monday through Thursday. The schedule is subject to change
