Veterinary Technician

General Duties:

• Answer questions and educate clients about basic pet care
• Administer vaccinations
• Maintain IV catheters
• Perform urinalyses
• Perform venipunctures using patients’ cephalic, saphenous, and jugular veins
• Administer IV, IM, SQ, and oral medications
• Provide IV and SQ fluid therapy to patients
• Apply wound dressings and treatments
• Set up and record diagnostic multi-lead ECG tracings
• Properly implant microchips
• Perform fecal examinations, including direct and flotation procedures
• Perform and evaluate skin scrapings and ear smears
• Perform CBCs and differentials
• Set up, centrifuge, and read hematocrits
• Measure blood glucose values
• Collect and prepare samples for bacterial and fungal cultures
• Perform dental scaling and polishing procedures
• Administer preanesthetic drugs to surgical patients as directed
• Administer IV, IM, and inhalation anesthetic agents safely
• Safely pass endotracheal tubes and ensure proper fits
• Track anesthetic depths, heart rates, respiratory rates, temperatures, pulse oximetry, and ECGs
• Perform radiographs and radiographic contrast studies
• Use refractometers or chemistry analyzers to evaluate total protein levels of serum or other fluids

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
