Kimley-Horn is looking for a driven Substation Engineer to help serve and grow our power utility and energy developer clients in an integrated manner.
Our power delivery practice has been growing quickly and we are committed to growing and building a team of highly specialized professionals to support a variety of substation and transmission and distribution projects throughout the country. The ideal candidate will have an entrepreneurial spirit and a broad understanding of engineering, design, and specifications of power systems for utility transmission and distribution projects. Focused experience with power delivery design is preferred, but a diverse understanding of; grid integration; high voltage substations and transmission lines; medium voltage utility distribution systems; SCADA; and low voltage industrial and commercial distribution systems is highly desired.
- Generate one and three-line diagrams, protection, and control (P&C) schematics, communications diagrams, wiring diagrams, substation design and physical plan, section and detail drawings and application of mark-ups for project-built drawings.
- Specifying and procuring substation equipment and material
- Understanding and adhereing to budget, schedule, and quality requirements
- Engaging other groups in the firm in technical discussions and awareness
- Cross selling opportunities with clients across all our other disciplines in house.
- Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination, and electrical studies.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with clients, internal partners, and other stakeholders.
- Registered Engineer (Electrical, Structural or Civil)
- 5 years of Substation design experience
- Consultant mindset to seek to understand client interests through interaction and communication with project leaders.
- Knowledge of engineering standards including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI
- Flexibility to work outside regular working hours
- Willingness to occasionally travel (as required) for business needs
- Confident communicator
- Detail-oriented and proactive
- Team player with a positive attitude/client service mentality
- Strong ability to gather, interpret and convey technical information
- Strong desire to grow and build a power delivery practice in Colorado and across the firm.
