What are the responsibilities and job description for the SCADA Support Tech position at Kinder Morgan?
SCADA Support Technician will work with Operations, I&E Technicians, and Engineers to ensure safe and efficient operations of the specialists in the design, maintenance and implementation of control and automation systems utilized in the operation of natural gas treating, processing and power generating facility.
Qualified individual will also provide field level technical resources for automation, instrumentation, and control equipment including installation, programming, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Program and validate facility control systems to ensure safe, efficient and accurate execution of commands as issued by the operator or interconnected control devices.
- Implement changes to Allen Bradley PLCs, Delta V DCS, field HMIs, and other automation system components to support operational changes and facility improvements.
- Investigate equipment failures and malfunctions to diagnose root cause of failure, and formulate corrective actions.
- Recognize potential problems or opportunities for improvement with existing equipment and develop solutions with the ability to adapt to various engineering designs, applications, and process criteria.
- Maintain and diagnosis facility industrial communications networks utilizing a variety of communication protocols including but not limited to serial, EtherNet/IP, Modbus RTU & TCP, HART, FieldBus and DeviceNet.
- Configure, test and maintain PLC based automation systems (primarily Schneider Electric Modicon M-340 platform using Unity Pro software).
- Interface with other technical/engineering disciplines to ensure the effective integration of automation systems to optimize facility operations, safety and environmental protections.
- Provide technical expertise in automation, instrument, and/or electrical specifications and standards as required.
- Provide oversight of system installation, lead commissioning efforts and supplying troubleshooting support for automation / control system projects.
- Provide mentoring and leadership to facility Equipment & Controls technicians to facilitate staff development.
- Provide guidance and field support for capital projects teams as required ensuring company facilities are constructed and programmed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Scope, budget, and execute small capital projects involving automation of facility equipment including, but not limited to compressor packages, process units, pumps, VFDs, and other process utility systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Experience/specific knowledge:
- Relevant experience in industrial process automation and control equipment including and not limited to Allen Bradley PLCs, DeltaV DCS, SCADA systems, field instrumentation, and other similar devices.
- Proficient with the required software packages to interface with the various types of equipment utilized at processing and automation locations.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and diagrams, electrical schematics, piping and instrument drawings (P&IDs), flow charts and cause and effect diagrams.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and possession of analytical problem solving skills to diagnosis and resolve complex technical matters.
- Able to proficiently utilize testing equipment including, but not limited to digital multi-meters, process meters, HART communicators, oscilloscopes, mega-ohm meters, RTD calibrators, and signal generators.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, Adobe Acrobat, and other computer proficiency required.
- Ability to work safely in challenging environments, including and not limited to high temperature, noise, dust and other industrial / oilfield locations.
- Ability to execute job functions efficiently with minimal supervision and the ability to prioritize activities to meet company needs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally. Ideal candidate will be able to provide expertise for company management, engineering, and operations staff.
- Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
- Must be a self-starter with a high drive for results
- Must have good time management skills and be able to handle multiple tasks at same time.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Physical requirements include, but may not be limited to, walk up and down stairs/ladders, negotiate uneven surfaces, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and insurer.
Education: Technical or Associates degree in Industrial Automation or Process Controls is preferred. Will consider equivalent experience.

Salary : $47,000 - $59,500
