What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overdose Prevention and Response Training Manager position at King County?

The Project Program Manager III | Overdose Prevention & Drug User Health Training Manager position responsible for educating individuals, communities, stakeholders, and organizations on opioid overdose recognition and response, including the effective use of naloxone. The trainer will work with community-based organizations, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to provide training on best practices for overdose prevention and response and available resources in King County. The trainer will also be responsible for creating and updating training materials and staying current on the latest research and best practices in overdose prevention.  The ideal candidate will have experience facilitating and training in community settings and across virtual and in person settings.  

The Health Sciences Division's Overdose Prevention & Response Program focuses on reducing fatal and nonfatal overdoses and improving wellness of people who use drugs in King County.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time salaried position. The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm and may include some evenings and weekends.

If Teleworking:(Some of the work associated with this position will be performed through teleworking, and will report to office location and to meetings as needed. Travel to other work locations may be necessary. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
 
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.  To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will be joining an innovative and progressive team.)• Develop and coordinate overdose prevention, anti-stigma and best practice training programs for healthcare professionals, first responders, community organizations, housing providers, and the public.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, first responders, and community organizations to identify training needs and develop customized training plans.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Conduct training sessions and workshops on overdose prevention and response, utilizing evidence-based best practices and current research.
• Establish partnerships with first responder stakeholders, and the EMS division to develop and implement trainings on topics related to overdose prevention.
• Develop data tracking systems and metrics for training’s and maintain accurate records of training attendees and training evaluations.
• Support Overdose Prevention workgroup tasks such as developing overdose prevention plans for agencies that request, working on supporting opioid lawsuit settlement work or other tasks related to overdose prevention.
• Collaborate with other organizations and agencies to coordinate and improve overdose prevention efforts.
• Participate in community events and outreach efforts to raise awareness about overdose prevention efforts.
• Provide technical assistance and support to community-based organizations and healthcare providers.
• Triage and assign all training, tabling, and community based events through a centralized intake process. 
  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, nursing, or a related field or equivalent year’s of work experience. 
  • 2 years of experience in overdose prevention and response.
  • Strong knowledge of opioid overdose, overdose prevention, and naloxone administration. 
  • Strong oral presentation skills, and the ability to provide trainings in both virtual and in-person formats. 
  • Extensive experience in training and facilitation, including development and implementation of training for healthcare professionals, first responders, community organizations, and the public. 
  • Ability and documented history of successfully coordinating and building relationships with external partners, including first responders, community-based organizations, and the health care community to facilitate engagement and cross-system coordination. 
  • Experience with program evaluation and the ability to use data to inform program improvement. 
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with healthcare providers, first responders, and community organizations. 
  • Experience working in diverse communities. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team. 
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to overdose prevention and naloxone administration. 
  • Individuals with lived experience with substance use are encouraged to apply.

  • Master’s degree in public health, social work, nursing, or related field. 
  • Knowledge and experience with Redcap
