What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumber Helper position at King County?

The King County’s Building Operations Section (BOS) within Facilities Management Division(FMD), is currently looking to hire a Plumber Helper. This position assists and works under the supervisor of a journey-level Plumber, repairing and maintaining pipes.

The individual selected should have strong learning aptitude and pride themselves at providing excellent customer service. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with minimal experience looking for the opportunity to learn.

  • Assist in performing planned maintenance on plumbing systems.
  • Assist in installing, servicing, and repairing various plumbing and mechanical systems, as required.
  • Assist in getting drawings, materials, and parts required to perform the job.
  • Lock out, tag out, and try out equipment for safety, as required.
  • Use various hand tools and approved power tools.
  • Check the monitoring equipment on systems, to ensure they are functioning properly, as required.
  • Assist in transferring and cleaning chemical processing systems per regulatory procedures.
  • Assist in assembling/attaching various pipes, valves, and other plumbing components ,using the appropriate tools and method.
  • Consult with co-workers or lead when assistance is needed and/or when there are questions on job related issues.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • Prior plumbing and drain cleaning experience/exposure
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Prior work experience is desired
  • Solid interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints
  • Skill in using tools typical of the plumbing trade
ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:
  • This position has been designated by department leadership as a FIRST RESPONDER in the event of a proclaimed emergency. Meaning this position has a role in emergency response and is responsible for the protection and preservation of life, property, evidence, environment and/or restoration of order.
  • We are creating a list for positions (Temporary, Special Duty or Career Service) that become available in the next 12 months.
  • These positions will report to 1 of 2 locations: King County Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA or the Courthouse in Downtown Seattle.
  • The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This position must be available for call-out for which appropriate premiums will be paid. Work shifts, and hours may vary due to maintenance and project requirements.
  • This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and are therefore overtime eligible.
  • Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hourworkweek; schedule and work location are to be determined.
  • Incumbents in these positions are represented by the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 32.
