The Road Services Division of King County's Department of Local Services is looking for an experienced people leader. This position will be responsible for the overall performance, budget and program safety for an assigned work unit. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Applying equity, racial, and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. In this role, you will apply equity and social justice principles that exemplify shared values, behaviors, and practices to all aspects of the work.Lead and be a role model by supervising work activities for your team by providing assistance, guidance and direction with difficult or unusual problems and prioritizing and estimating time and costs to ensure completion.Actively develop both formal and informal relationships within the division and be comfortable communicating with higher management, providing information and recommendations tailored to management decision making and receive and investigate complaints from the community.Monitor and document the work quality and quantity by providing input and preparing performance appraisals to evaluate your team, including disciplinary actions and being an active participant in the hiring process.Ensure that proper safety precautions are followed on all jobs by implementing and supervising work group safety activities and that work crews comply with construction, OSHA/WISHA, and environmental standards, codes, regulations, and specifications; Assist in budget preparation, monitor monthly and annual budget expenditures and authorize purchases and code invoices.Evaluate equipment needs and assist in the development of equipment specifications, order materials and supplies, and work with the King County Department of Finance to maintain appropriate vendor lists.Identify training needs for your team, research available training sources, develop, schedule and implement the annual work unit training program to ensure new employees are properly equipped and trained.Respond to emergency situations and natural disasters, which may include flooding, snow/ice events, windstorms, and earthquakes.Have a LEAN mindset by developing, recommending, and implementing modifications or revisions to existing processes and procedures.Attend meetings with supervisor and management staff to discuss work projects, schedules, and timeliness.Other duties as assigned.

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE: Those applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to participate in a 15 minute phone interview the week of 3/25/2024.If you are selected to move forward after the phone interview, you will be invited for a 45 minute virtual interview the week of 4/1/2024.WHO MAY APPLY: This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants and may be used to fill current and or/future career service, term-limited temporary, short-term temporary, and or/special duty positions over the next six months. Special duty opportunities are open only to current King County career service employees who have completed their initial probation. Special duty applicants must have approval from their current supervisor to accept an assignment. Current employees selected for special duty will be compensated based upon the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement, King County Personnel Guidelines, or Coalition Labor Agreement for their base assignment.
