Job Title: Recycling Plant Laborer
Department: Base Operations and Maintenance
Job Summary:
As a Recycling Plant Laborer, you will be responsible for various tasks related to the recycling process. Your primary duties will include sorting recyclable materials, tracking pickups, and operating equipment such as forklifts and bailers. This role is vital to our mission of promoting sustainable practices and reducing waste.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Safely and efficiently sort and separate recyclable materials from incoming waste streams

Ensure that materials are properly categorized and prepared for processing

Operate forklifts, bailers, and other recycling machinery following safety protocols

Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance
-
Maintain accurate records of materials received and dispatched
-
Assist in scheduling and coordinating pickups with drivers and logistics teams
-
Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries
-
Follow environmental regulations and company policies related to recycling processes
-
Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure efficient operations

Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and other plant personnel

Keep work areas clean and organized

Assist in general maintenance tasks around the recycling plant as needed
Required Skills/Abilities:

Proficient in written and oral communication skills according to skill requirements
-
Possess strong computer skills, able to read, write, and comprehend written instructional documents

Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume

Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry

Proficient Microsoft Office productivity suite
Education and Experience:
-
High school diploma or equivalent.

Prior experience working in a recycling plant or similar environment is a plus.

Valid forklift operator certification is preferred.
Physical Requirements:

Prolonged period of standing, bending, reaching, and working with hands

Occasional periods of prolonged exposure to loud noises
-
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times
-
Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands as necessary

Ability to hear and see to position and safety requirement levels

Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals
Special Qualifications/Requirements:

Must be able to successfully pass, as required, a federal, state, or local government's background investigation
