Peer Support Specialist I (986)
Redding, CA
Peer Support Specialist I (PSSI) works in cooperation with the program manager and the wellness center team to support the daily operations of the wellness center and perform all necessary documentation, in a timely manner. The role of the PSSI is to provide direct client services in accordance with the values and ethics of peer support. The PSSI will model the healthy application of strategies that support mental health and emotional regulation, while practicing and maintaining professional boundaries. The PSSI will provide support for consumers, interns, and volunteers at the center, on community outings and public events.
How will I contribute
- Co-Facilitate groups and activities on and off site.
- Support consumers with developing action plans, safety agreements, post-crisis planning and psychiatric advance directives (PADs).
- Provide community education on wellness & recovery.
- Provide consumers with necessary referrals and advocacy.
- Provide transportation for consumers when needed.
- Provide needed support for volunteers and interns.
- Other duties as assigned.
What I bring
- High School; Diploma (or Equivalent)
- One year experience in peer work or completion of a peer training program or certificate of completion for WRAP Seminar I or certificate of completion for Taking Action for Whole Health and Wellbeing Seminar I
- Class C Driving License Required
- Knowledge of the philosophy and goals of program assigned; common practices and procedures in wellness and recovery; knowledge of best practices in peer support; knowledge of expectations relating to professional boundaries needed in peer work.
- Take personal responsibility to practice strategies and work-life balance necessary to maintain personal wellness. Communicate effectively with consumers and co-workers. Work comfortably with a variety of diversly-abled people.
- Must have lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery; including, but not limited to, mental illness, addiction, foster care, high ACE’s score, trauma, intimate partner violence, homelessness, and neurodivergence.
- Bilingual English/Spanish & ASL Preferred.
