The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, monitoring?and analyzing accounting data and producing financial reports, and establishing and enforcing proper accounting methods, policies and processes.
Responsibilities:
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
Manage four direct reports AR Specialist, AP Specialist, Senior Cost Accountant and Payroll Specialist including:
Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress
Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
Advise and oversee staff on period close procedures
Advise staff on non-routine transactions
Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
Ensure an accurate and timely period closes including:
Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations
Calculate deferred revenue and commissions
Prepare, review and book journal entries
Prepare and analyze financial statements
Assist the Director of Finance in the treasury management including:
Devise and update cash flow and payment strategies
Prepare bank reconciliation
Perform credit line draws and repayments and wire/ACH initiations
Prepare weekly cash reporting
Oversee company tax accounts and return preparation including:
Reconcile sales tax payable and file monthly sales tax returns
Coordinate with external income tax accountants to provide requested information for preparation of income tax returns
Prepare annual property tax filings
Manage communications with parent company and subsidiaries including:
Provide requested information and reporting in a timely fashion
Report on intercompany transactions
Assist with development of intercompany processes, as needed
Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Work with the external financial statement auditor at local and global level to ensure a clean and timely quarterly reviews and year end audit
Work closely with Purchasing, Process Improvement, Project Management, and Sales teams to handle questions and issues as well as develop and/or update processes
Support Director of Finance with general ledger and cost analysis, special projects, ad hoc reports and process improvements
Perform technical research on accounting related issues as needed
Required Skills:
BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, CPA preferred
Two to five years prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
Experience with Sage 100 or other ERP a plus; must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel.
Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required
Desired Skills:
Public accounting experience preferred.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Travel:
Less than 5% Domestic Travel
Physical:
Must be able to sit & stand 8 hours / office environment
Starting Salary - Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
