The Senior Cost Analyst is responsible for manufacturing cost accounting, job cost analysis, inventory analysis including the reserve and standard cost maintenance.  Works closely with various areas of manufacturing and supply chain to understand cost variances and how they impact the financial results. Heavily involved in month end close and reporting process including margin reporting and analysis as well as inventory reporting.


Responsibilities:

  • Collects data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, manufacturing jobs, labor and overhead.
  • Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reporting on margins and inventory including ongoing reporting on inventory balances, trends and adjustments.
  • Establishes standard costs, updates them as appropriate, and compiles and runs annual standard cost roll.
  • Rolls work order and BOM costs on assemblies, and tests margins and cost completeness on work orders.
  • Generates PPV reports and analyzes findings.
  • Reconciles inventory balances and obsolescence reserve.
  • Assists with and analyzes physical inventories.
  • Fulfills audit requests on inventory and costs.
  • Compiles cost information to be used in operating budget preparation.
  • Tracks costs and activity on customer-owned inventory.
  • Reviews SOPs for inventory and cost process impact.
  • Develops extracts and system reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • 3-5 years of cost accounting experience required, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Expert Excel skills required (e.g., utilizing pivot tables, v-lookups, macros)
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Power Point
  • Ability to work “big data” (extract and analyze)

Desired Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Cost Accounting Standards
  • Experience with Sage 100 and crystal reports a plus
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and self-sufficiently
  • Personal accountability to get work done on time and accurately
  • Flexibility and adaptability to take on various tasks
  • Ability to manage time wisely and effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks

Starting Salary - Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, and certifications.
