The Opportunity

The Student Life Coordinator (SLC) will be responsible for supporting KIPPsters navigation through social-emotional learning and demonstrating our school values at all times. Through a lens of restorative practice, the SLC will support KIPPsters who need additional support and/or have been removed from their classroom, with the goal of facilitating a successful return to their classroom community and maximizing student learning time.

Job Description

Key responsibilities include the following:

• Facilitate restorative conversations, process incidents with KIPPsters, and assist in successfully returning KIPPsters to class.
• Assist in school wide efforts to develop a restorative, positive school culture rooted in student achievement.
• Build relationships with KIPPsters who are on Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and be present at their family meetings.
• Support KIPPsters who are removed from the classroom.
• Support classroom management and class transitions, as well as lunch and recess duty.
• Serve as a model for KIPP Columbus’ values and expectations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Four year Bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum of one year of successful, full-time, working or teaching experience
• Prior experience working with children in a school or afterschool setting
• Belief that outstanding school leaders, staff, and teachers can achieve excellent outcomes for all students.
• Ability to persevere with a sense of optimism, strong problem solving skills, and desire to learn and grow in a collaborative professional learning community.
• Willingness, and commitment, to go above and beyond to prove the possible with students.
• Ability to multi-task and work within an ambiguous, fast-moving, start-up environment, while driving toward clarity and solutions.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Extreme flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate high levels of responsibility and multiple priorities.
• Model the values of KIPP Columbus (Imagine, Navigate, Seek, Persevere, Integrity, Responsibility, and Empathy).
