Job Summary
The lab lead technician is a working team lead position and is responsible for the day to day activities in the lab to support production and maintain lab standards to the highest quality. As a lead, they are responsible for the execution and transaction of work in and out of the lab using the ERP system and lab software that releases approved material to the shop floor. Ensures employee adherence to safety rules and practices, company policies, housekeeping procedures, and quality compliance. Drives the department KPI’s, monitoring and developing their teams’ performance to achieve department goals. Supports the management team and carries out the duties of the lab supervisor when absent.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepares Test samples by milling and Molding uncured rubber
- To perform all physical and mechanical properties testing for samples per ASTM methods or other industry/customer requirement.
- Review and generate test reports.
- Use ERP system to perform job and material transaction, MRR – Material Rejection Report, and inventory cycle counting.
- Manage and communicate testing priorities in order to support production commitments.
- To review and interpret customer specifications and engineering in relation to material properties and performance.
- To determine and perform Corrective Actions for rejected material independently or with support from LAB supervisor/Chemist.
- Support and lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) activities related to materials in collaboration with Design, Manufacturing and Quality Engineers.
- Maintains Lab Enterprise software, creates and updates test report templates and supports integration with other business systems.
- Ensure all lab equipment is calibrated where applicable and preventative maintenance is performed and maintained.
- Create and issue purchase requisitions and support CER creation for materials, testing and equipment.
- Support Engineering change and material obsolescence activity
- Maintain periodic testing of compounds in accordance with customer, industry or internal specifications.
- Support new material development activities.
- Maintains, creates and updates lab procedures in accordance with customer, Industry or internal standards and ensures all lab personnel are trained and working in accordance with those procedures.
- Others duties may be required as assigned by manager/supervisor.
Education/Previous Experience Requirements
- Associate Science Degree or High School Diploma with minimum 5 years of LAB/Manufacturing experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as reading and comprehension
- Excellent math skills
- Computer literate
- Ability to work well with others
- Able to perform job with minimum supervision.
