HR Generalist

KITCO Fiber Optics, a Marmon Wire & Cable/Berkshire Hathaway Company, is a leading provider of fiber optic termination products and consulting services for the military and commercial communications industry. We specialize in the design and fabrication of fiber optic tools, tool kits, and custom cable assemblies. We also produce private label kits for a number of major connector manufacturers and sell our own broad line of products. Our field services division performs on-site termination, splicing, troubleshooting and testing support, and our training division provides hands-on training and certification programs. We are recognized within the defense industry as fiber optic connectivity experts and, for over 20 years, have customized our products and services to meet strict military standards.

We are looking for an HR Generalist to join our HR team in Norfolk, Virginia.

The HR Generalist at KITCO Fiber Optics collaborates with the HR Director and all levels of the organization in creating solutions that empower everyone to realize their full potential. The HR Generalist reports to the HR Director and will provide HR support to 2 locations and field employees assigned to contracts throughout the US. With assistance from various centers of excellence at the group and corporate level the HR Generalist will focus on several key focus areas:

Employee Relations

The HR Generalist will be a point of contact for employees and managers to go to with questions and advice. They may provide guidance on a variety of matters including engagement, performance, development, total rewards, and conflict resolution.

Recruiting and Onboarding

The HR Generalist will manage a high volume recruiting and onboarding process for all locations by ensuring that job postings are regularly refreshed, applications are reviewed in a timely manner, and candidates are treated to a delightful experience regardless of the outcome for their application. The Generalist will also help managers with the first 90 day experience by checking in with new hires and ensuring the onboarding plan has been followed.

General and Administrative Responsibilities

Payroll: learn company payroll process and act as back up during vacations, time off, or other high volume time periods for the primary payroll person.

Reporting: Provide HR Director and managers with status updates on HR Programs in process (e.g. completed and upcoming performance reviews, completed training requirements, recruiting metrics, etc.)

Administration and Compliance: Keep abreast of legislation affecting human resources; respond to unemployment and worker compensation claims; assist employees with leave administration and payroll processes/data; maintain company records and files.

Requirements

• In progress Bachelor's degree in HR Management or Business Administration or in a related field (completed degree preferred).
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM or SHRM SCP certifications preferred
• 2 years of professional work experience, experience working as an HR Generalist / HR Business Partner preferred
• Must be knowledgeable of Federal, State and local employment laws.
• Customer Service / Servant leadership orientation with a focus on HR as a credible activist within an organization.
• Professional communication skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound business decisions on local issues
• Able to maintain confidences and offer sound advice.
• Industry experience helpful but not required.

• 8 hour shift
