What are the responsibilities and job description for the INTERNSHIP - ACCOUNTING - AUDITOR'S OFFICE position at Kitsap County?
This is a paid internship, Monday, Wednesday and Friday,
8 a.m. - 12 p.m. for a period of six months.
KITSAP COUNTY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Kitsap County supports internship programs that provide work experience for students that is related to their course of study in an accredited post-secondary institution. The internship program is designed so that the student will have the opportunity to apply principles and theories learned in the classroom, gain new skills, explore a career path and be supervised and mentored by professionals in their field.
GENERAL OVERVIEW HERE:
The Auditor’s Office, Financial Services Division is responsible for providing accounting support to County departments and offices, maintaining the financial management system and reporting the county’s financial activity. The candidate will be able to learn about governmental accounting, participate in our annual financial statement preparation process, and perform assigned tasks that support the work we do.Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to show proof of enrollment in a post-secondary institution at the time of internship. If the internship occurs during the summer, the student may provide proof of summer or fall enrollment.
Desired Majors and Class Level
- Finance, accounting, or another related field.
- Sophomore(2Y) - Senior(4Y)
SUPERVISION
- Intern will receive supervision from an administrative superior as assigned.
- Work is performed in accordance with established policies and accepted practices.
- Work is reviewed through status reports, meetings and observations.
- Capital assets:
- Using the capital asset listing, conduct physical inventories of capital assets in other departments.
- Using Workday reports, recalculate 2023 depreciation expense for selected capital assets.
- Using worksheets from departments, create worksheets in a specific format to upload to Workday small and attractive assets.
- Prepare monthly Excise Tax calculation using Workday reports and an excel workbook.
- Prepare selected journal entries.
- Monthly property tax and recording fees and annual property tax adjustments.
- ACFR
- Update the statistical section – requires research and updating excel worksheets.
- Other general ledger accounting responsibilities as assigned related to general accounting, financial reporting and/or analyses functions.
- Applications will be screened as they are received.

- Classified as eligible for overtime under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
