The Operations Manager has the responsibility for oversight of master control operation, production control room and programming needs. This position hires, supervises, trains and provides mentorship to employees in station operation. Is responsible for all technical operations for master control and production and oversight of station operations resources, including vehicle fleet.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise day-to-day operations and schedule all technical media producers.
- Works with engineering/IT staff to make sure production equipment and facility is functional.
- Ensure all technical media producers are trained and proficient with news directing and master control operations.
- Must know and understand FCC rules and regulations regarding EAS, transmitter and tower logs, and political advertising.
- Works closely with news management to ensure newscasts are error free.
- Proficient in all phases of production including EFP, ENG, non-linear editing, and live television production. Understands the operation of Production and Master Control automation, Newsroom Control Systems (NRCS), video graphics creation and editing, robotic camera control, and Video playback systems.
- Plans and coordinates all live productions (debates, elections, concerts) – logistics, staff, facility, etc.
- Communicate with vendors and contractors.
- Be on-call for unscheduled news event.
- Oversee the fleet of KITV-KIKU station vehicles. Which includes vehicle registration, insurance oversight, scheduling of repair and regular maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Skills:
- Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience. Must possess the necessary technical skills and/or ability to learn and acquire the skills and abilities, to properly perform the duties of the position.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Minimum five years' experience with digital electronics systems in a television broadcasting environment, with at least five years of experience in a leadership role.
- Experience guiding, directing and motivating subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
- Experience establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
- Strong PC/MS Office experience.
- Experience with fiber connectivity, production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The Operations Manager must be able to stand, sit, reach, climb, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Operations Manager must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
