Position Purpose
As an Engineer in Training I you will work closely with task managers and design leads to gain practical on-the-job experience and understanding of KLJ engineering and design standards. Position is responsible to gain fundamental engineering basics that align with ensuring KLJ continues to provide exceptional service to our clients. Position will be responsible to produce design, quality calculations, drawings, development, engineering reports, construction administration and other project deliverables.
Essential Functions
* Apply fundamental engineering principles and standards to individual project tasks
* Utilize design software to apply engineering standards of design
* Construction observation/inspection
* Ensure compliance with KLJ quality standards
* Utilize effective written and oral communication
Responsibilities
* Assist with elements of project design including calculation of quantities for cost estimating and bidding purposes
* Increase design competency in software(s) associated with typical project requirements
* Become familiar with, and competent in the details of putting together a set of drawings
* Perform construction administration duties such as documenting activities, providing general oversight, and interacting with contractors, sub-contractors, and others.
* May assist with preparation for public/client meetings
Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited post-secondary institution
* Engineer-In-Training Certification
* Must possess basic MS Office skills including Word and Excel.
* Must have a valid driver's license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
Preferences:
* Academic or on the job engineering design experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation or other design software.
* Desire to pursue Professional Engineer licensure
* Previous internship experience in related field
Relationships
The EIT I is supervised by the Department Manager and will receive close supervision and direction on project related tasks from the Engineer, Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer or Project Manager.
* This position completes specific, routine operations that include a few separate tasks and procedures.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40 or more hours per week. The percentage of time spent in the field and office will vary.
