GENERAL PURPOSE

Under immediate supervision, applies standard engineering theories and concepts to the development and commercialization of new products as well as the maintenance of existing products. Performs primary analyses to develop design options or recommendations for Geiger case goods products as well as dynamic system setup of models and BOMs. May apply originality, ingenuity and knowledge of other disciplines in solving basic technical issues. Emphasis will be placed on team participation, ability to plan, and ability to achieve results on assigned projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Applies basic supply chain cost, value stream capabilities and economic principles as well as learned engineering skills to work assignments.

Applies problem solving skills and executes solutions to problems independently.

Coaches basic engineering tasks to others.

Collaborates with Product Development to understand and implement the design vision and objectives of new products.

Creates and maintains CAD models and drawings to support launch of new products and modifications to existing products.

Develops configuration models that may include 3D CAD models, drawings, BOM data, and manufacturing data.

Follows engineering and quality processes.

Identifies worst case products for product testing and assists in the creation of test requests. Investigates and implements new solutions for any issues discovered during testing.

May work with external suppliers to investigate solutions to support new products or enhance existing products.

Seeks approval of budget owner using appropriate request process.

Works closely with Process Engineering to achieve designs that optimize for efficiency and repeatable quality in manufacturing.

Works closely with CNC programmers to ensure that configuration models generate accurate and machine-efficient programs.

Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or 2 year technical degree in related field with 5 years of applicable engineering experience.

2 - 4 years of experience in professional engineering or 0-3 years of specialty engineering, applicable internship/co-op experience and experience with participating and leading projects.

Skills and Abilities

Project management experience may be essential for some assignments.

Knowledgeable in Lean principles and application.

Must be able to assess process concepts and to determine where continuous improvement opportunities exist.

Must be able to communicate effectively with people at various levels including production, engineering and management and to be able to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members.

Knowledgeable in the use of common office automation, communication, software and tools, and engineering related software.

Must have experience in Pro-E modelling or other equivalent 3D CAD software.

Must have basic knowledge of engineering data structure.

Experience in VBA or other basic programming language a plus.

Must be a skilled problem solver and be able to apply engineering expertise to problem solving.

Must be able to assess priorities and determine course of action with minimal day-to-day supervision and be able to anticipate, recognize and respond effectively to changes which affect project plans.

Must have an overall business sense and understand how decisions impact business results.
