SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Operations will serve on the senior executive leadership team to manage and coordinate the Operations staff and all activities of the food and beverage processing plants and operations. Initially, it is expected that this position will have four direct reports: Director Operations, Director of Continuous Improvement, Director of Engineering, and Director of Maintenance. The Vice President of Operations is charged with maximizing productivity and efficiency of the organization’s processing operations by establishing and accomplishing strategic objectives; leading a continuous improvement and Lean culture; achieving scheduled product attainments per shift, controlling processing cost per case; controlling processing overhead; controlling energy costs and efficiencies; building and developing teams; and ensuring good employee relations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

- Increases stakeholder value by establishing manufacturing objectives aligned with corporate mission, providing information and gleaning insight on operating plans from subordinates; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing new strategic initiatives; analyzing and recommending changes to the top executive team.
- Achieves organization’s manufacturing goals for scheduled product attainments per shift, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), direct and indirect costs and factory cost per case by controlling,measuring and ensuring planned budget spending for headcount, direct labor, direct materials, work in process, waste, water, and employee overhead; managing energy costs and ensuring efficient energy usage; and serving as a member of the union negotiating team.
- Serves customers by establishing processes, systems and manufacturing technology that promote quality, security, and on-time delivery; receiving customer complaints from the Technical Services Department and routing to designated plant area for sign-off and resolution; directing all plant managers in the aspects necessary to ensure that materials are available and labor is utilized to fulfill production requirements.
- Contributes to organizational effectiveness by providing leadership for problem resolution to address critical issues and to facilitate faster improvements and improved working relationships. Work closely with Director of Continuous Improvement to run Kaizen events and build a Lean culture throughout the plants.
- Enhances manufacturing capabilities by identifying and analyzing capital needs and participating on capital project committee to determine priorities; serving on new products committee to ensure feasibility of manufacturing concepts; and participating in approving critical vendors for products and services effecting manufacturing by working closely with Vice President of Supply Chain.
- Achieves organization’s financial goals by developing, monitoring, and enforcing budgets, scheduling expenditures; approving plant invoices, managing energy costs; evaluating financial results monthly and year-end; analyzing variances; reviewing financial performance with subordinates and senior executive team; recommending courses of action and initiating corrective action.
- Maintains good communications and consistency within departments by establishing and disseminating written policies and procedures; listening for input from others; seeking mutual understanding on problems involving collaboration; and keeping subordinates advised of all critical issues. Improves employee relations by enforcing good communication and consistency of treatment to all manufacturing employees.
- Keeps Board of Directors, executive team, and supervisor abreast of all critical issues by attending meetings to communicate manufacturing related issues and advising of actions taken.
- Complies with legal and regulatory requirements by enforcing company policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintains staff and ensures results by selecting employees with the best fit of competencies; ensuring that job tasks are aligned with company strategic focus; ensuring that job duties, responsibilities, authority, and accountability are defined and understood by the subordinate; monitoring performance, reviewing staff yearly for promotibility; coaching, appraising job results, and praising/ disciplining as necessary.
- Protects assets by enforcing a disaster preparedness plan; ensuring high ethical standards are enforced; and ensuring that all safety standards and regulations are strictly enforced.
- Preserves historical reference by establishing and maintaining record-keeping system; documenting procedures and decisions, and maintaining required documentation.
- Maintains trust, confidence, and protects the company by keeping information confidential and disclosing only on a need-to-know basis. Ensures high ethical standards for self and staff. Fosters a spirit of respect, trust, and cooperation; and upholds the organization’s reputation in the community.
- Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Contributes to the organizational effort by continually looking for ways to improve productivity and customer orientation within scope of control by use of technology, procedures, and use of resources.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge/skills by using the performance appraisal system to access personal strengths and development needs to accomplish the strategic goals of the organization. By working with the CEO, establish a development plan which may include, but not limited to, attending educational classes, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and/or mentors and participating in professional societies.

Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:
Ø BS degree in Engineering or Business discipline preferred.
Ø At least seven years’ experience in manufacturing management including Continuous Improvement and Lean experience.
Ø Proven track record of Change management and strong cross functional leader.
Ø Possess intellectual curiosity; learns from asking questions and listening to others.
Ø Record of leading and managing staff.
Ø Strong computer and Microsoft applications software proficiency.
Ø Good working knowledge of English, grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, etc. with the ability to read and write reports, policies, and procedures.
Ø Working knowledge of Spanish a plus.
Ø Ability to analyze and understand the nature of the business; how initiatives will impact the strategic plan, financial resources, and human resources.
Ø Ability to visualize creative initiatives and make recommendations to ensure optimal resource use, minimize total costs, and maximize value to the customer.
Ø Ability to communicate one-on-one and with small groups, to facilitate meetings, to listen actively, to persuade others to accept recommendations, and negotiate contracts.
