What are the responsibilities and job description for the Catering Cook position at Knox Area Rescue Ministries?
Summary
Cooks in the KARM catering kitchen are excited about preparing and serving nutritious food to others through private events as well as the Urban Table food truck. Cooks undertake a wide range of tasks in support of a daily high-volume production schedule – prep, inventory control, cooking (sauté, grill, bake, fry, etc.). Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment. Enjoy working with paying clients in public settings and representing ALC and Urban Table in a professional Christian manner.
Requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith; spiritually mature
- 2-4 years’ kitchen experience; volume production experience preferred; current ServSafe certification preferred
- Strong working knowledge of standard culinary techniques; ability to utilize and adapt recipes and perform standard mathematical calculations
- Demonstrated ability to establish respectful relationships
- Ability to show grace, be hospitable, and to be an example of servant leadership
- Working knowledge of appropriate boundaries
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to follow direction; high degree of flexibility and resourcefulness; team player
- Ability to drive KARM catering vans as well as on occasion the food truck
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license and have proof of insurance
Working Conditions
- Ministry campus facility kitchen
- Exposure to stressful situations requiring discernment
- Majority of time spent in kitchen with commercial kitchen equipment
- Kitchen has concrete floors and may be warmer than optimum
- Walking, standing, sitting, bending and lifting up to 30 pounds required
- Travel required between KARM and event sites within the community
- Required attendance at KARM meetings or special events, sometimes during evening hours
- Time spent on truck is tight space that at times can be hot
