Knox College invites applications for the full-time, 12-month position of Assistant Director of Business
Analysis and Information Strategy. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of
Advancement Systems and is responsible for collaborating with key advancement units on information
management and business processes to meet partner and division goals. This position provides
oversight and management of key advancement data, develops and documents business processes and
provides training and support. In this role, the Assistant Director assists in providing data and setting up
lists/exports for partner staff to empower them to generate their own data and/or reports. The
Assistant Director also provides maintenance across other advancement platforms (i.e. iModules,
Communications Calendar), ensures the integrity of data that is shared across various sources,
documents business processes, suggests ways to improve and/or enhance the use of data and
technology to meet their goals. In addition, the Assistant Director provides and coordinates training on
business processes and technology platforms for advancement partners.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
● Provide leadership and collaboration to key advancement units for advancement data and
database and business processes.
● Collaborate on the design and implementation of tracking new data in support of advancement
programs, systems integration and flows between advancement systems and other 3rd party
advancement technologies, and extensive testing of new processes and platforms.
● Provide support of data entry and integrity efforts related to gift and biographical updates in the
advancement database. Provide training and documented resources for partners for business
processes, and maintain up-to-date documentation.
● Liaison to advancement partners for collating and documenting all business processes and
workflow related to various advancement databases/systems.
● Assist in developing and implementing procedures to ensure quality data to support
advancement division initiatives.
● Key liaison for business processes related to review of the advancement communications
calendar, advancement documentation and electronic document management.
● Responsible for creating and designing reports for several Advancement departments and
Academic departments when requested.
● Assist in the production of financial, analytical, biographic and demographic reports as well as
mailing lists, recognition lists and other data extractions for advancement partners.
● Respond to requests for data, reporting various information and analysis using Cognos
● Operations support of Advancement software and related data and reports provided through
those platforms.
● Develop and implement training on key business processes with advancement partners,
including documentation.
● Keep division abreast of changes and new products/software and industry best practices in
information management and gift reporting.
● Assist in training to departments outside of Advancement on use of Advancement database.
● Work on projects related to advancement systems and all advancement databases, document
imaging systems, etc.
● Assist with Homecoming and Reunion weekend activities as needed
● Assist the Office of Advancement with projects as asked.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

● Excellent organizational and communication skills
● Strong problem solving, organization and collaboration skills
● Ability to balance multiple priorities and projects in deadline driven environment
● Ability to evaluate effectiveness of business processes and propose enhancements to achieve
goals
● Experience communicating technical information through training and documentation
● Direct experience working with databases and an appreciation and understanding of the
importance of data in the context of business rules and reporting
● Broad experience and proficiency with computer systems and relational databases. Knowledge
of computer networking, system servers, computer software, computer hardware and reporting
tools. Proficient using MS office professional applications.
● Firsthand knowledge of relational databases, SQL and statistical analysis; experience in
computer languages including SQL, PL/SQL, HTML, PHP. Experience with reporting writing using
Cognos, Crystal Reports, SSRS, etc.
● Ability to quickly adapt and learn new software platforms – and then become versed in training
others to learn and adopt new tools and related processes
● Research, propose and implement new methods and technology; provide technical support for
advancement partners throughout the transition and serve as an agent of change, advocating
for improvements in business processes while achieving end-user acceptance.
● Broad understanding and appreciation for fundraising/advancement work
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in computer science, business analytics or data analytics,
or commensurate experience.
● Knowledge of computer systems and computer query languages.
● Must have 5 plus years of direct or transferable experience, preferably working in an
educational environment or within Advancement.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
● Experience with system migration projects and data mapping
