Important Information:

The Kokomo Police Department's pre-hire physical fitness test is going to be held on Sat, Sept. 17, 2022.

Before Participating in The Sept 17th Physical Fitness Test, The Kokomo Police Department Require That All Applicants Provide a Copy of The Following Documents:

  • Birth Certificate
  • High School Diploma
  • High School Transcript
  • If applicable: Military DD Form 214
  • If applicable: College transcripts and diploma

IMPORTANT: Our pre-hire physical fitness test will be in the spring. There are (5) events that you need to pass and they are as followed:

  • Vertical Jump, 16 Inches.
  • One Minute Sit-ups, 29.
  • 300 Meter Run, 71 Seconds.
  • Push-ups, 25
  • 1.5 Mile Run, 16 Minutes 28 Seconds

Job Description:

As a Police Officer-Entry Level, you will attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy designed to provide an overview of the criminal justice system, training in various laws and procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid, physical fitness and related duties.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge of: Basic oral and written communication skills including grammar, punctuation, and spelling required for report writing, verbal explanations of the law, and court testimony.

Ability to: Meet the physical and psychological standards required; make accurate observations; read, understand, and follow written and oral directions and established police procedures; learn to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals in the community while explaining and enforcing laws; learn to document and communicate details and recognize hazards and crime problems; learn the applicable Federal, State, and Local Codes and motor vehicle codes; learn basic Police Officer standards of conduct and public relations; learn maintenance of firearms and all police related equipment; learn to think and act quickly in emergency situations; learn to assess situations accurately and to apply interpersonal skills and police training to diffuse and/or resolve stressful or potentially volatile situations.

License Requirement: Applicants must possess an Indiana Driver's License at time of appointment.

Age: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, and less than 40 years of age at time of appointment.

Physical: Excellent health. Must also meet physical and psychological standards required to perform Police Officer duties.

Education: High school graduation or equivalent.

Disqualification Factors: No felony convictions, domestic violence convictions, NO illegal use of any type of drugs for two years prior to the submission of the Kokomo Police Department Application.

No history of personal or criminal conducts which may affect the suitability for employment as a Police Officer.
SELECTION PROCESS

The selection process will consist of the following:

  • Physical Assessment Test
  • Written Exam
  • Background Investigation
  • Polygraph
  • Oral Exam
  • Medical Examination and Drug Screening
  • Psychological Evaluation

Candidates must successfully pass each phase of the selection process.'

  • The Kokomo Police Department requires that all prospective applicants participate in the upcoming pre-hire fitness test on 9/17/22, which includes: (25) pushups 300-meter sprint in under 71 Sec. (29) situps 1.5 mile run in under (16min 28 Sec.) *Vertical Jump (16 Inches). Are you physically able to participate in the fitness test?
  • Please respond with "Yes I Understand" that merely submitting your interest to the Kokomo Police Department DOES NOT mean you are hired or guaranteed employment with the Kokomo Police Department.
