Job Overview
The Buyer/Planner - Subcontract Role will be involved with the planning and procurement of materials to support OE and Aftermarket sales. Ensuring orders are received to quality specifications from suppliers on the required due dates through expediting and overall order management to prevent production stoppages and workforce downtime. This Role will maintain and control material costs. (Providing support to cost reduction teams.). The Buyer/Planner - Subcontract Role will adhere to existing supplier contracts as directed by senior personnel. Review and resolve supplier performance issues. The Role will provide direction to new buyers, assist in training and the development of procedures. It has the broad latitude to act without guidance within established policies and procedures. Change agent for initiating continuous improvement activities and creating additional efficiencies though process improvement. The Buyer/Planner - Subcontract will be knowledgeable in and support current business strategies and market inventory initiatives. This Role will utilize extensive knowledge of purchasing techniques, industry advances, related laws (domestic and international), understanding of currency exchange rates and international freight terms.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Creation and communication of purchase orders to external suppliers.
- Maintains suppler information records, lead-times, source list, material master data, purchase orders and MRP related settings.
- Resolve purchase order and invoice discrepancies including pricing, quantity, and shipping/receiving issues.
- Initiate requests for product development and support ERN/ECN process and the flow of information.
- Supplier development to improve quality, delivery, and reduce TCO/TLC. Provide direction and support to build supplier relationships with a long-term approach.
- Coordinate the disposition of rejected parts in a prompt /cost effective manner to prevent production stoppages and workforce downtime. Recover associated costs from rejected materials and warranty items COPQ.
- Ensure orders are received from suppliers on the specified due dates through expediting and overall purchase order management, including management of MRP messages to prevent production stoppages and workforce downtime.
- Drives Supply Chain programs (Consignment, Kanban, JIT, VMI, etc.) and ability to manage project execution of these programs.
- Support new product development and automation initiatives.
- Creation and analysis of reports as specified by management.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Operations or Business. Associate Degree in combination with Relevant Experience in Purchasing, Materials, or Engineering can also be considered.
- 2 years of Relevant Working Experience.
- ERP environment experience (SAP a plus). MS Office aptitude.
- Ability to Read / Interpret Engineering Drawings and Technical Specifications.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with a strong focus on customer service.
- Making decisions and solving practical problems with a variety of variables in situations where standardization may be limited.
- Strong Analytical/critical thinking skills to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Self-driven, results-oriented, and motivated to work effectively without direct supervision.
- Ability to interpret technical data and a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- CPIM, CSCP or CPM Certification is a preference.
- Knowledge of Komatsu Mining products is a plus.
