- Performs all the functions of the Class C & D Welder plus lays out, assembles and tack welds structural pieces to form complex weldments.
- Includes all functions of the Class C & D Welder plus:
- Receives work assignment, reviews work instructions, routings and MOP's, and complicated drawings to determine layout, plan sequence of operations, welding requirements, visualizes completed weldment, determines shrinkage and distortion allowance and plan sub-weldments when needed. Initiates through supervision, the correction of errors by Engineering or Processing. On occasion, will communicate directly with Engineering staff.
- Applies all required PPE as required for the work at hand.
- Lays out work applying shop mathematics and using appropriate measuring and marking tools as required. May use templates, existing fixtures, or improvise and fabricate new ones for the work at hand.
- When required, uses a forklift truck to facilitate set up duties. Assembles pieces according to layout, tack welds together, and welds those areas that become inaccessible during set up. Bevels or trims parts using oxy-fuel or carbon arc torch when necessary to obtain accurate fit, burns out holes in weldment when required. Uses manual or mechanized oxy-fuel process to heat and straighten plates and available mechanical presses as needed. Installs run off tabs and bracing as required. Repositions work as required using material handling equipment.
- Sets up various sized, complex weldments.
- Identifies part/order number on weldment.
- Must be able to communicate well within a team structure.
- Must have 1-3 years experience in MIG welding
- Must pass a PTA, FC-1, FC-2, FC-3(flux core levels).
- Ability to work 3rd Shift.
- Available for work approximately 40 hours per week.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and be flexible.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality-always.
- Team oriented.
- May be asked to work weekends. Ability to work weekends as needed.
