Position Overview:
This Personnel Security Specialist (PSS) position is considered a PSS Level I, considered an entry-level position for compensation purposes, however anyone can apply. The PSS will support key security matters within the company’s Personnel Security Program (PSP) and report directly to the KGS Security’s Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO). The PSS will be assigned out of the KGS Chantilly Office however will be eligible to participate in a part-time telecommuting schedule.

Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Supports key personnel security matters within the company’s Personnel Security Program (PSP) and clearance access requirements under the National Industrial Security Program (NISP).
  • Assists with administrative security actions for applicants for entry into employment and for employees for retention in employment with prime and subcontract components utilizing government applications and other agency specific systems.
  • Receives and initiates correspondence with internal/external stakeholders to ensure compliance with ongoing personnel security actions per company policy, procedures, and NISP requirements.
  • Assists with documenting personnel security data and maintaining internal and external systems.
  • Reviews and evaluates a variety of material relative to personnel clearance requirements to determine adequacy and completeness.

Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Basic software skills, such as, database entry, verifying information, retrieving records, researching, etc.
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one an Interim Secret within 12 months of hiring.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior work experience as a PSS or related work preferred but not required.
  • 2 years or more of full-time work experience; formal education beyond high school can be credited toward work experience.
  • Ability to manage and track various security actions in an expeditious manner, such as:
  • Prioritize key personnel actions, as provided by AFSO and FSO
  • Accurately document personnel security information.
  • Expedite visit access requests and clearance verification checks.
  • Maintain personnel security files and internal security tracking systems.
Working Environment & Conditions
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position is primarily indoors, consistent with a standard office position and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. The incumbent is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The workload may require the incumbent to sit for extended periods of time. The incumbent must be able to read, do simple math calculations and withstand moderate amounts of stress. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
