JOB SUMMARY
The Controller will be a strong leader with the ability to establish and implement policies and procedures to meet financial reporting deadlines with accurate and timely financial reports. Areas of responsibility include general ledger oversight, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, RFPs, cash management, banking, financial risk management, and income and sales tax reporting and compliance. The Controller will serve as a strategic business partner to the executive leadership team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate and lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes, including analysis and interpretation of financial results to the executive team.
- Responsible for all RFPs, contracts, and pricing negotiations with new and existing customers.
- Provide strategic recommendations regarding financial performance to the CEO and members of the executive management team.
- Provide leadership, direction, and management to the accounting team in all aspects of budgeting and financial reporting.
- Prepare Corporate and Project Income Statements and forecasts.
- Oversee journal entries and bank reconciliations.
- Develop and maintain relationships with senior management, external vendors, banks, investors, and other stakeholders.
- Manage the team and be hands-on in cash management, A/R collections, and A/P disbursements. This includes the annual 1099 process and all other banking and regulatory requirements.
- Establish/refine policies and procedures across all functional areas of the business, including procurement, credit and collections, supplier payment terms, contract administration, establishing new customers and suppliers, and inventory management.
- Act as the financial gatekeeper for the company to maximize profits and cash flows; develop methods to lower operating expenses and identify opportunities to increase gross profits.
- Responsible for planning and compliance of all sales and income tax provisions.
- Oversee matters related to document control and storage in adherence to the company’s record retention policy.
- Coordinate and act as liaison between the company and the independent accounting firm to provide detailed schedules in connection with annual reviews and corporate income tax return filings.
EXPECTATIONS
- Ensure punctual and accurate close of financial records to support timely delivery of internal reports to decision-makers. Conduct and oversee month-end closing procedures, including overall adherence to GAAP.
- Lead and oversee all RFPs, contracts, and pricing negotiations with new and existing customers.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis processes.
- Oversee and create cash flow reports.
- Develop useful KPIs and dashboard reports to keep decision-makers apprised of the financial position, including Sales, A/R, A/P, Inventory, T&E expense, Operating expense, and ROI.
- Gauge profitability across all customers and provide weekly reporting.
- Oversee the general ledger and review all aspects of proposed adjusting journal entries as well as account reconciliations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited university. Master’s or MBA degree preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of solid general accounting experience, with experience in a small business finance-focused role.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing a team of professionals.
- Experience in the utilities industry and/or in a distribution environment preferred.
- QuickBooks experience preferred.
- Project-based accounting experience required.
- Budgeting & Forecasting experience required.
- Contracts and RFP experience required.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual who will oversee the company's financial records and account personnel. You will be responsible for maintaining all procedures and controls related to the company's financial accounts.
