What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preconstruction Estimator position at Korte?
The Korte Company is seeking an experienced Project Estimator to join our Preconstruction Services Team in Houston, TX, St. Louis, MO or Highland, IL. This person will be an integral part of securing new, profitable Department of Defense work for The Korte Company.
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
Korte project estimators are important contributors to our business. Project estimators perform valuable, important work and through exposure to many, different projects learn many facets of the construction field. The work is fast paced - project estimators work on 10 to 15 projects per year.
Most of our projects are design-build giving our estimators the opportunity to learn and apply problem solving and team building skills. Since we work all across the United States, our estimators gain exposure to different construction methods and local conditions and practices. Our training is hands on and our employees are self-directed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Locate potential vendors and trade contractors interested in working with Korte
- Pre-qualify vendors and trade contractors based on their experience and financial capability
- Travel to project sites to investigate field conditions and meet with local trade contractors
- Utilize software to determine the scope of the project and prepare cost estimates
- Obtain accurate take off and pricing for all materials, labor and equipment
- Communicate with and coordinate the work of trade contractors as they prepare their proposals
- Evaluate and analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals to compare with internal estimates
- Manage the flow of information to project participants throughout the bid process
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management or relatable field
- commercial construction estimating experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of construction building methods
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Desire to succeed against short and long-term goals
- Thorough and detail-oriented
- Desire to work with clients, designers, subcontractors and construction staff in a team environment
- Strong work ethic, a great attitude and ability to thrive in an objective-driven environment
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to travel
- Previous experience with MC2, Timberline, OST, P6, and/or other estimating software preferred.
