Position Summary:
- Provide peer support to youth currently in the foster care system by modeling healthy social interaction, teaching life skills and maintaining appropriate boundaries and communication with youth and members of the case management team.

- Topeka, KS
Schedule:
- Evening and weekend availability is needed
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Prior experience in healthcare and/or welfare services
- Prior experience working with clients having complex mental health issues at risk of hospitalization
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Flexibility in assigned working hours; including some evening and/or weekends
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid drivers license
- Valid Auto Insurance
- At least 21 years old
Essential Duties:
- Assist in providing structured and constructive activities that support the client's treatment.
- Assist clients with learning and practicing daily living and social skills.
- Assist client in completing daily living tasks as needed.
- Assist clients with problem-solving daily living situations.
- Provide transportation and accompany clients to and from activities and/or appointments.
- Provide above services on an individual basis or in a group setting as required.
- Engage individuals in a positive, constructive, respectful and hopeful manner.
- Recognize and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences.
- Help others succeed by demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work with persons with severe and persistent mental illness and/or serious emotional disturbance, and the ability to react effectively in a wide variety of human service situations.
- Effectively manage conflict.
- Interact positively with other staff, members of the agency and team, including active participation in supervision activities, team meetings and training, etc.
- Communicate with youth’s placement provider and case manager about the schedule and frequency of attendant care sessions.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and professionalism with youth and other members of the case management team.
- When needed, meet or take foster youth into the community for purposes of attendant care session, demonstrating life skill or attending an appointment with youth for the purpose of lending support.
- Communicate concerns and other pertinent information to the case team (including but not limited to child’s case manager, child’s FSW, foster home FSC, kinship care coordinator, etc.).
- Ensure confidentiality.
- Exhibit a high level of courtesy and professionalism.
- Work as a member of a team.
- Serve as a mandated reporter of suspected abuse/neglect.
- Complete all required documentation thoroughly, on time and in accordance with agency standards including submission of case activity logs and billing sheets as required.
