What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kinship Support Worker position at KVC?

KVC Kansas represents one of the strongest and broadest child welfare and behavioral healthcare continuums in the nation. We are responsible for the care of all children who are served by the Kansas Department for Children and Families in the Kansas City Metro and East Regions. KVC is seeking a Kinship Support Worker to provide assistance to the Kinship Care Coordinators to ensure children in foster care have permanent and safe connections in their lives. Due to the unique needs of the families we serve, this role does not have a predictable schedule. KVC staff have the flexibility to manage their own time to create a positive work-life balance, but there will be evening and weekend work required as well as significant travel time to visit families in their homes. The use of company fleet vehicles is available for company travel.

KVC’s clientele represent diverse backgrounds and KVC is seeking to enhance and expand our diversity in order to better serve our clients.

This position requires a High School Diploma or GED and applicants must also have a valid driver's license and auto insurance. Experience with childcare is preferred.

The duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:

  • Scan required documents and placing them in correct files
  • Complete New Provider Forms and entering them into the system
  • Ensure relative information is documented into the Family Structure section within the KVC CARE system
  • Conduct fingerprints on potential relative/non-related kin placement
  • Complete online searches for family members and connections utilizing Accurint, search engines, social media, etc.
  • Communicate with potential relatives/non-related kin through email, phone, or mail
  • Ensuring relatives have the resources needed to care for the child(ren) (beds, car seats, child safety equipment, lock boxes, fire alarms, Carbon monoxide detectors, alarms, etc.)
  • Create Kinship Relative Home Binders and/or Folders and ensure information is kept current (Kinship Handbook, contact information for KVC workers, local resources, financial assistance, etc.)
  • Maintain a tracking system to ensure annual relative assessments are completed timely
  • Maintain and update Kinship forms/documents
  • Maintain and update the Kinship Facebook page
  • Ensure relatives have current information regarding daycare and assist in any communication needed between relative and DCF and/or KVC Accounting
  • Provide childcare as needed for relative support groups and/or educational meetings
