Job Summary:
The Behavioral Health Support Specialist is directly supervised by the Behavioral Health Support/Intake Coordinator and works closely with front desk, medical records, financial eligibility and program management teams. Often the first point of contact for individuals seeking services, the Support Specialist works directly with patients and families by providing a welcoming environment, providing information regarding services, requesting and collecting necessary information, assisting patients complete required paperwork, and entering data into the organization’s electronic systems or files. The Support Specialist also provides support to program management teams.

- Must be willing to learn behavioral health systems, be self-initiating, self-directed, detail oriented, work well under pressure and able to organize and manage multiple
- tasks/projects simultaneously
- Must be able to build, promote and maintain positive and professional working relationships within a team environment
- Must able to operate a computer, have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and be able to learn and become proficient in the use of electronic health record systems
- Must demonstrate excellent judgment.
- Must be willing and able to work with difficult individuals or people in crisis
- Must have strong problem solving abilities
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure to meet objectives.
- Knowledge of regulations, policy and procedure, standards of accrediting bodies, contractual agreements and utilization management criteria.
- Must be willing and able to learn and demonstrate knowledge of behavioral health care principles and practices.
- Skill in interpreting and analyzing data with the ability to abstract information from medical records.
- Ability and willingness to work independently at multiple sites.
Job Requirements:
- Individual must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Employee is required to complete New Employee and job-specific Orientation upon hire, complete required initial/ongoing Behavioral Health Specialties related training in a timely fashion and complete Promotora training within one year of employment.
- Individual must be willing and able to use personal vehicle in course of employment when needed and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must submit to LCDF required background check(s), TB screen and drug testing.
