About the Role:
This individual will be responsible for fostering fundraising opportunities for LaAmistad programming. The Grants Coordinator will work directly under the Development Director to search for foundations that will support LaAmistad’s current programs, and to write compelling, successful proposals requesting support. The Grants Coordinator will work independently to foster fundraising opportunities and must be self-motivated and organized to continually foster growth opportunities for LaAmistad.
Job Responsibility::
- Write grants that make a compelling case for support
- Write grants with clear, direct, and concise language
- Ensure that drafts of grants are completed at least five days prior to their due date
- Keep a consistent record of program data to accurately reflect programmatic accomplishments
- Research relevant statistics to accurately illustrate the need and impact of programming
- Keep grants databases updated so that grant awards are accurately tracked
- Update grants calendar with all relevant information
- Update Raiser’s Edge Opportunities list to track fundraising progress over time
- Add information to the Fundraising Report
- Continually search for grants
- Keep up to date with all upcoming initiatives and the amount of money needed
- Regularly search for grants that will fund programs in need of funding
- Communicate with foundations to continually develop fundraising sources
- Write letters on behalf of LaAmistad to raise interest of current work among prospective fundraisers
- Schedule fundraising meetings with foundations
- Write thank-you letters to all foundations that have attended meetings with LaAmistad
- Maintain the Raiser’s Edge Database
- Keep track of all upcoming actions on Raiser’s Edge to ensure that all stewardship deadlines are met
- Add all upcoming grants under the “opportunities” tab for each organization
- Update any missing information on constituents or foundations that are not complete on Raiser’s Edge.
- Add any upcoming grant writing tasks to the grants calendar on Raiser's Edge
- Keep a record of all grant-related documents on OneDrive
- Maintain a well-organized series of folders for budgets, foundations, and governing documents
- Ensure clear communication with colleagues in order to meet grant deadlines
- Approach colleagues at least one week prior to grant deadlines to gather relevant information about programs
- Work alongside Development Director and Executive Director to determine appropriate grant narratives
- Communicate relevant reporting requirements to colleagues to ensure that required data is gathered for reports
Desired Skills and Attributes
- Ability to write, specifically technical writing background. Preference given to individuals with experience in proposal writing
- Strong communication abilities. Preference given to Spanish-speakers.
- Strong ability to research using online databases
- Strong and direct oral communication skills
- Strong team-oriented attitude
- Ability to submit all grants in a timely manner
- Ability to represent LaAmistad in a positive light, both in attitude and in writing to a broad, diverse audience

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Proven experience in written composition with preference given to those with technical writing experience.
- Proven background in research, preferably researching nonprofit databases
- Background collaborating with diverse cultures and organizations
- Background fostering collaboration across diverse audiences
- Preference given to individuals with Spanish speaking experience
- Proven experience working independently
- Strong background of oral communication, with an emphasis on having a positive attitude
This person is hired by the Executive Director, and will report directly to the Development Director. All submitted proposals will be approved by the Executive Director.
